Federal Writer Project Collected a deed submitted by W. S. Lovell, of Birmingham. This old deed of 1840, tells the story of a $485,000 transaction of slaves and land. The deed concerns property owned by relatives of Mr. Lovell. Listed in detail are names and ages of more than 200 Slaves. Some names were not legible.

This Indenture made the Twenty Third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Forty between Henry Turner and Louisa his wife and Felding L. Turner of Mississippi of the one part, and Henry W. Turner of the Parish of Madison in the state of Louisiana of the other part.

That the said parties of the first part for and consideration of Four hundred eight five thousand dollars.

Heirs assign Forever, all that certain tract of land known as Palmyra Plantation in the county of Warren Mississippi.
