Chapter 4

“Is this Madison Parson?” The voice said. “Yes, who is this?” I said sleepily. “Ms. Parson this is Janet Peterson at Orlando Community Hospital. There’s been an accident involving two of your friends and I think you need to get down here.” I immediately shot up out of my bed, terrified to death. “What? Who?” I asked now wide awake.

“A Mr-um-Alexander McLean and Mr. Brian Littrell.” “Are you in the ER?” “Yes ma’am, I...” I cut her off “I’ll be right there.” I hung up and called Nick. I told him to met me at the hospital and he said he’d call everyone else. When I got to the hospital Nick was already there but he said they wouldn’t tell him anything. So I went up to the ER counter.

“Where is Janet Peterson? I need to speak with her.” I exclaimed to the clerk. “I’m Janet Peterson. Can I help you?” A voice came up from behind. Nick and I turned around quickly to face her. “Hi, um, I’m Madison Parson, you called me earlier about my friends.” “Oh, yes, walk with me Ms. Parson so we can talk in a less crowded area.” The nurse said. Nick and I began to walk with her, then suddenly she turned and faced Nick “Sir you’ll have to stay in here.” “No, he’s coming with me. He’s AJ and Brian’s other best friend. He has just as much right as me to hear what’s going on.” I protested. “Fine then, go right there in my office and I’ll be right back with the doctor.” She said. I began to get really scared and began crying uncontrollably. For a while Nick was just sitting there, then he got up to console me. “Maddy they’re going to be okay. You know the guys, they’re strong and they won’t leave you, especially Brian.” Just as he said Brian, the doctor walked in.“Hi, I’m Dr. Simmons.”

“I'm Madison Parson and this is Nick Carter.” I said. “The Nick Carter. My girls would be so..”the doctor began to declare. I cut him off “Not to be rude, but get to the point. We want to know about our friends.” “Okay, sorry about that. About two hours ago, Mr. Littrell and Mr. McLean were struck by a drunk driver. The other driver was dead on arrival.” I began to cry again. “Mr. McLean was lucky. He escaped with a few gashes, one on his head and one on his shoulder. He had 1 cracked rib from the seat belt and is bruised heavily around where the seat belt goes. He also has a broke hand and broke foot. He also had a few gashes on his legs. All in all he has over 300 stitches.” “That’s lucky?” I said getting angry. Nick just held me so I wouldn’t lose total control. “He could have been worse.” He then continued...

“Mr. Littrell however was not as lucky. He is in ICU right now. He’s not conscience. He had some broken ribs, broken knee cap, and was cut across the forehead. He also has some major internal bleeding that we can’t stop.” At this time I was beyond uncontrollable. “To be completely honest with you, we’re not sure if he’ll make it. Have you notified his parents?” “Yeah, I called them and everyone else that needs to know.” Nick said as he held me. “Does AJ know?” Nick asked. I could tell he was crying but I couldn’t look up at him. “We told Mr. McLean not too long ago. He’s been up in Mr. Littrell’s room for a while.” The doctor told us. “Can I see him?” I said between tears. “I’ll take you two up right now.” The doctor said as we followed him to ICU.

I was still crying as we got to Brian’s room. “Nick, you go on in, I’ll be in in a minute.” I told him. “Are you sure?” Nick asked. “Yeah.” About a minute later of watching Brian, Nick, and AJ through the window, I broke down again. Then, suddenly I felt someone try to help me up. I got up and hugged AJ gently. We were both crying. After a minute of us hugging and remote silence (w/ exception of sobs) AJ spoke. “I’m so sorry, he tried to swerve to keep from hitting him head on. I guess that’s why I wasn’t hurt as bad.” I just continued to cry. “Maddy, I swear if that drunk bastard had lived through this, I’d kill him for what he did to my best friend.”
