The doors of the club swung open and the group walked out onto the porch. The club was steaming and the chilly air felt wonderful against their faces. They all walked over to the Expedition, chatting excitedly about who they met and what they did. "How was that for a birthday party, Jen?" Deanne asked. Jen and smiled brightly, showing Deanne she had a great time. "We don't need to get you any presents, do we? Cause it looked like you got yours right at the table." AJ commented, giving Jen a wink as he slid his arm around DeeAnne, letting his hand rest smack on her ass. Laughter erupted from the entire group-except Brian and Jen. They only turned to each other and smiled sheeplishly.
"So guys...what's next?" Deanne asked. She never went home after one club. Jen & Deanne would hop to atleast 4 clubs before going home. Howie looked at his watch, and then back at the guys. "It's only 9:30 guys. Let's go see what else is around here." Everyone agreed on meeting at "Neon Starlights". Jen and Deanne walk back to their car while the guys climb into their car. Shutting the door, Deanne looks over at Jen and starts yelling.
"Man girl! You were gettin down with that boy!" Jen looks over at Deanne and starts laughing. "Yeah yeah. It pays off watching you with all those guys you've met. Especially that AJ fella... I mean, what was THAT!?" Deanne laughs and hits the steering wheel. "Girl, if you play your cards right, you just might get a little more than a kiss tonight..NOW THAT IS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT!" Deanne yells with a mix of howls and laughter in her voice. Jen shoves her hand in Deanne's face and points to the steering wheel. She finally calms down and starts up the car.
Pulling out of the parking lot, Jen looks back at the club, remembering that wonderful kiss she encountered inside it's walls. The whole drive to "Neon Starlights" was a blur. She didn't even notice that Deanne had parked the car until she started snapping her fingers in Jen's face. "What!" Jen yelled. Deanne just looks at her, trying to figure out her behavior. "Hello! We're here! You can fantasize later."
Going into the club, everyone acted the same. Howie and Kevin went to the dance floor, along with AJ & Deanne. Nick found himself talking to this pretty little blonde girl at another table. All that was left was Brian. Jen slowly walked over to him, as he watched the crowd of clubbers mingle and dance to the head-pounding music. Jen casually slips her arm around Brian's and leans her head on his shoulder. "Hey Bri." Jen says in his ear. He turns to look over at Jen and smiles back. "Hey. Some cluh, eh?" Brian turns his head to look back at his friends. Kevin was sharing a drink with a girl at the bar, Howie was dancing with some beautiful latin girl near the DJ, while AJ & Deanne had an audience of clubbers watching them freak in the middle of the floor. Jen searched around for Nick and found him cuddling up to a girl at a table.
"Yeah. Looks like everyone's found someone..." Jen says quietly. She didn't know what to do with Brian next. Should she stay level and friendly to him, or should she try to steal another kiss like at the last club? This decision was pissing Jen off. She didn't want to make the wrong move and mess up with him. He was too good to make a wrong mistake with. She began to wish she wasn't here, holding onto him. Slipping her arm out of his, she started to walk towards the door. She knew that if she went out, she couldn't get back in. But she really didn't care anymore. She just wanted to go somewhere by herself.
Walking out the front doors, she didn't even see the groups of people, yearning to get inside nor hear the yells and hoots some of the frat boys threw at her. She could feel the anger and confusion tumble inside her as she walked to Deanne's car. Standing beside the door, she remembered that she had forgotten to lock the doors. Sliding into the passenger side, she closed the door and locked it. Laying the seat down a little she felt the hot tears slide down her face.
Why the hell am i crying? I have nothing to cry about!" she said out loud. She kicked the glove box in frustration, and wiped her face clean. Jen looked over at the radio, wishing she had the keys. "Hope Brian's having fun in there. He's probably already found some slut to freak with." Jen muttered to herself. Just then, a shadow loomed over the window, tapping on the glass. Jen gasped and jumped into the center of the seats, ready to kick whatever was in the window.
"Jen." the shadow whispered. He knocked softly on the window. Jen found a flashlight in the center glove box and shined it out the window. "Oh sorry Brian." Jen replied, recognizing who it was. He backed away, rubbing his eyes and motioning to the door for her to open it. Climbing into the drivers side, Jen couldn't find hersef to look at him, wishing he never came to the car. "Why'd you leave, Jen?" Brian asked quietly, running his hand through his light brown hair. Jen didn't know what to say, atleast didn't know anything nice to say about why she left. Her heart began to beat faster and she felt a cold chill run through her body again. Looking over at Brian, she couldn't tell him why she left. It would hurt him so bad, and Jen didn't want to hurt such a nice guy.
"The reason why I left was because I didn't know what to think, or do." Jen kept her eyes fixed only on the steering wheel- afraid to look over at Brian. "What we did back at the Green River, I did because I was very attracted to you. And I still am. But I didn't know what to feel or do around you in there. Everyone seemed to be havin a great time and that pissed me off." She slowly looked over at Brian, who wasn't even looking at her. "Jen..." Brian replied, looking down at his hands. All of a sudden, Jen began to feel lightheaded as she heard Brian finally speak. "I let you kiss me..because I wanted you to. I'm actually glad you kissed be because I wanted to...but didn't want to come on to you too fast."
Brian looked up and saw Jen lay her head on the steering wheel, eyes closed. He cocked his head to the side and tried to see what the matter was. Inside, Jen felt her heart pound and another cold chill went through her body. She was scared out of her mind and didn't know what to do. A lonely tear slid down her cheek as she sobbed softly, fearing that this could be serious. Leaning down into her ear, Brian whispered softly, "Jen..I'm sorry if I hurt you. That's the last thing I would want to do to you." Brian wrapped his arms around her shivering body and pulled her close to his warm chest. Brian's heart ached to see her so tortured and wished that he could take her pain away.
Her heart began to pound inside her ears, closing off anything she could hear. It was like being underwater, with every little sound was like an explosion in her ears. She leaned her head against his chest, hearing his heartbeat in her ears. She felt very tired, so she closed her eyes and relaxed against his body. She could still smell a little bit of his cologne inside his shirt. Drifting off to sleep, the pounding in her head subsided and her heartbeat softened. Before closing her eyes, she looked up at Brian's golden face and smiled delicately at him. "Thank you Brian." she then laid her head back down on his chest and closed her eyes.
Brian looked down at Jen and looked at her peaceful face. He stroked her smooth honey brown hair and lightly kissed her forehead. Leaning his head back, he closed his eyes, thinking of this beautiful woman sleeping peacefully on his chest. He let out a heavy sigh and laid down the seat and fell asleep.
