History of Delta Rho

Home page.

History was made in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., November 22, 1961.  The occasion was the establishment of Delta Rho Chapter with a series of interesting, inspirational activities which culminated in a banquet at St. Paul Church.  These activities were under the auspices of Alpha Tau Omega, the local graduate group.

The organization of Delta Rho marked the first city undergraduate chapter of its kind in the South Central Region.  Undergraduate chapters were usually based on a college campus, but Delta Rho was unique in that it offered membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha to women attending the colleges and universities of San Antonio.

Present for the history making event were Sorors Odalie L. McDonald, South Central Regional Director, and Fannie Mae Edmerson, Basileus of Alpha Tau Omega Chapter.
