Misty Misty Foster's parents, Jeffery and Gloria, get divorced because Gloria fails to fulfill Jeffery's sexual and emotional desires. Misty continues to live with her mother, while her father moves out to live with his younger girlfriend, Ariel. Misty begins dating Charles Allen Fitch. He falsely claims that his parents are also getting a divorce in order to seduce Misty. After dumping Charles Allen, Misty starts seeing Lloyd Kimble, the class "bad boy." She runs away with him on his motorcycle after they are caught alone in her father's apartment. Lloyd robs a convenience store, and he and Misty are arrested. As part of Misty's probation, she is sent to Doctor Marlowe for therapy. Star Aretha Anthony and Kenny Fisher get married as a result of getting pregnant with Star. They later have a son, Rodney. Kenny leaves without saying goodbye. Aretha begins seeing Aaron Marks, and they eventually get married. Granny has a heart attack. Rodney falls ill with a spinal cord infection. Aretha sends Star and Rodney to live with Granny, and moves to San Francisco with Aaron. Star begins dating Steve Gilmore. Steve is violently beaten by his father, and later dies from his injuries. A devastated Star tries to commit suicide by walking into a busy street. As a result, she is admitted to a hospital and put under psychological therapy. Star is released into the custody of her grandmother, and as probation, set to Doctor Marlowe for therapy. Aretha calls to say she is in North Carolina, has left Aaron, and is now seeing his cousin. Jade Jade Lester, who always suspected that she was a mistake, was born to Maureen Mathews and Michael Lester almost six years after they had married. Their marriage seemed to revolve only around their individual careers. A very bitter divorce and custody battle ensues. Her parents begin using her as a pawn in a game to destory each other. Jade runs away to San Francisco to see Craig Bennet, whom she met on the Internet. Craig holds Jade prisoner in the attic of his house. She escapes and returns home, without anyone even knowing she was gone. After they find out about San Francisco, each of Jade's parents vow to spend more time with her, but she suspects they are just using her again. Following the meeting with Judge Resnick, Jade overdoses on her mother's sleepings pills. As a result, her parents consider joint custody. Jade is sent to Doctor Marlow for counseling. Cat As part of a "instant family inheritance package," Geraldine's wealthy father begs her to marry stockbroker Howard Carson. Geraldine's mother gives birth to Cathy (father unknown), whom Geraldine and Howard secretly adopt as their own. Geraldine has a miscarriage. Cat's body begins to develop in the fourth grade. Her uptight, critical, abusive mother tries to hide it. Convincing her that he loves her and is helping her, Cat's father begins to sexually abuse his "special girl". Cat goes to classmate Kelly Sullivan's boy-girl party where she gets drunk and is groped by the boys. After finding out what happened, Cat's father shows her the difference between good touching and bad touching. In preparation for a school dance, Cat's father buys her a snug, revealing dress to replace the frumpy one that her mother bought. He proceeds to give her dating "lessons." On the eve of the school dance, Cat's father takes her to Santa Barbara on a business trip. He buys her revealing clothes, shows her off, then rapes her in the motel. Cat learns that she is adopted. Emotionally shattered by the events in Santa Barbara, Cat ends up in a mental health hospital. The doctors use hypnotism to release her of her generalized amnesia. Cat's mother begins divorce proceedings and Cat's father leaves. Cat learns who her real mother is and that her mother is actually her half-sister. Cat is sent to Doctor Marlow for therapy.
