Kassidy woke to sunlight streaming in the windows. She shifted and felt Nick's arm tighten around her waist. She vaguely remembered Nick carrying her in the house the night before and asking where she wanted to sleep. Obviously she said with him. She looked at his hand now lightly resting against her stomach. She reached down and traced a finger over it. His hand was
large and strong, but so gentle. She always loved the feeling of her hand getting lost in his. She giggled when she noticed they were lying on top of the covers, still in the clothes they had worn the night before.
"What are you giggling about?"
"Us. We are still in our clothes from yesterday."
"I know. I didn't want wake you up again. Plus I didn't want you mad at me for undressing you without permission."
Kassidy turned over and kissed him. "Thank you."
"What for?"
"Being you."
He smiled and said, "Oh OK."
Suddenly, the other residents of the house interrupted them. All the dogs were in the room and on the bed.
"Oh no. It's the attack of the loving pugs with their sidekick the boxer," laughed Kassidy.
"How did you guys get out of your room," asked Nick also laughing.
"It's my fault Nick."
"Lily come in. It's OK."
A woman, who looked to be in her fifties, stuck her head in the room. Kassidy and Nick sat up. Rocky the boxer hopped off the bed and ran to Lily, who affectionately rubbed his head.
"Lily Alvarez meet Kassidy Rivers. She tries to keep this place straight."
"Hello Ms Alvarez."
"Hello Ms River. Call me Lily."
"Lily call me Kassidy."
"Nick is this the Kass you are always talking about?"
"Um.yeah," said a blushing Nick.
"He talks about me does he," said Kassidy, getting up from the bed. "I think we need to talk."
"Kassidy," whined Nick.
"Yes," asked Kassi as she left the room with Lily.
"Nothing," he pouted.
"Suit yourself. Now Lily what exactly."
Her voice trailed off as she headed down the hall with Lily. Nick looked down to see the pugs looking at him.
"Come on puppies. Let's see what they are saying," he said as he left the room with the dogs in hot pursuit.
"I can see why Nick is so taken with you. You are beautiful, smart, and have a big heart."
"Now you're making me blush," said Kassidy. "Besides you just met me and you know all this?"
"Yes. I've been cleaning Nick's house for two years now."
"Two years? Why didn't we meet this summer."
"I spent time with my son and his wife. She was having expecting their first child and was put on bed rest. As I was saying, I know my Nick and he loves you, so you must have all those qualities."
"She does Lily," said Nick.
"Again I must apologize for letting the dogs disturb you. The house was so quiet. I thought you were gone."
"No problem. We got in late from the wedding."
"Oh yes, the wedding! How was it? Beautiful?"
Kassidy replied, "Yes it was. They were so happy."
"I always loved Howard. He is such a good boy. And Madelyn is a special girl. I'm glad they found each other. I must get to work," said Lily as she went to open the laundry room door.
Nick was letting the dogs outside, but said, "Lily you really don't want to look in there."
"Heaven's Nickolas," she exclaimed when she looked inside.
"I know, but with Christmas and the wedding I didn't get a chance. Hey how was your Christmas?"
"It was wonderful! All the children made it home. Even Stephen and Connie with the new baby, Noel."
"What a beautiful name."
"Yes she was born on the first. How was your Christmas?"
"It was great," they answered.
"Now scoot and let me get to work."
"Alright Lily. Thanks," said Nick as he hugged the woman.
Nick and Kassidy headed upstairs to change clothes. Kassi hurried downstairs, when Nick got a call from his mom. She found Lily dusting the livingroom.
"Lily, you can leave the laundry. There is so much. I'll do it later."
"Kassidy I have already started it. There is a lot to do, but you did teach him something."
"Me? What?"
"He now separates everything when he puts it in the room. So I don't have to do it."
"I didn't know he did that."
"You have more influence with him than you realize. It's what happens when love is involved."
"There you are," said Nick as he entered the room. "Were you talking about me again."
"Of course. How is your family," asked Kassidy.
"Their good. At least that is what mom said. Let's get out of Lily's way."
"Yes go."
"It was nice meeting you Lily," stated Kassi as she hugged the older woman.
"It was nice to finally meet you too."
"Lily you're the best," said Nick as she kissed her cheek.
A blushing Lily said, "you charmer. Get out of here!"
Nick pulled Kassidy out the backdoor and the dock. He helped her board his boat. Pulling up anchor he navigated the boat out of the canal and into the bay.
"Nick do you realize this if the first time I've ever been out on a boat with you?"
"Do you like it?"
"I love it."
"Good. Want to steer?"
"You trust me?"
"Sure. Come here."
Kassidy joined him at the wheel. As she steered Nick kept his hands on her waist. Looking out over the water was very relaxing. After an hour of sailing around the bay and out into open water, Nick dropped anchor. They sat on the deck and watched the world go by. It was a little chilly, which was normal for the last week of December. Nick pulled out two sweaters and a blanket. The sweaters were for the trip back. The blanket was for now and they snuggled close under it.
"Kass New Year's Eve is this week."
"Yeah," said Kass with a smile.
"What do you want to do? If you want to go out we can."
"Nick what do you want to do?"
"I don't care. Like I said we can go out if you want."
"If I don't want to go out is that OK too?"
"Yes," said Nick. "That would be great. We could watch the countdown on TV and see the fireworks from the bay."
"Sounds like a plan to me."
"Good."
They headed back to the house an hour later with their stomachs growling. The dogs greeted them. Lily was in the laundry room starting another load. Nick told her to take off he would finish the laundry. She hugged both of them and left.
Kassidy prepared lunch. They spent the afternoon doing the laundry and watching a movie. After the movie Nick asked Kassidy for a date. His face lit up when she said yes.
They got ready and went out to his favorite restaurant. The owner knew him and put them in a private corner. They had a good time. It was nice to spend some time together without being part of the Backstreet circus. As much fun as it was to hang out, Kassidy treasured this time with Nick. And no matter how hard she fought it, she found the place in her heart where she had
kept her love for Nick stored was expanding and filling her whole heart again.
As they were waiting for desert, Nick's phone rang. He was irritated at the interruption. Kassidy watched his whole demeanor change when he found out who was calling. He was agitated as he fired questions at the person. Suddenly, Nick was off the phone and they were out the door.
"Nick talk to me."
Nick concentrated on his driving as he explained, "It was Les. She's at the airport."
"You're sister is in the Tampa Airport?"
"Yes. She had a fight with Mom and Dad."
"That's why your mom called this morning?"
"Yeah. I had a feeling something was up."
"Do you know what they fought about?"
"Lesley is accreting her independence."
"And they don't like it any better now than when you did it."
"Nope. Kassidy you know what she looks like right?"
"Yeah. She's all over the magazines. You want me to get her?"
"Please."
"Nick she doesn't know me. She will never come with me."
"Tell her Nick said she better get her ass out to the car. She'll come with you then."
Twenty minutes later, Kassidy walked into the airport and found the bathroom right next to the baggage claim. Lesley told Nick she would hide out in there. Lesley had found some success in the US since her debut album was released four years prior. Her real success had come in Europe and Asia. She was getting recognized more in the US since being signed to a contract with Cover Girl Make-up. Kassidy walked into the bathroom to find Lesley leaning against the wall by the sinks.
"Lesley?"
"Yeah," responded an apprehensive Lesley.
"Nick says you better get your ass in the car."
Lesley visibly relaxed and laughed; "the big butt said that huh?"
"Sure did."
They made it quickly out the door, but had to wait for Nick to circle around again. They got in and were on their way back to Nick's.
"Lesley what the hell were you thinking?"
"Hi bro. Good to see you too."
"Hi Lesley. Now what the hell were you thinking," he asked glaring at her in the rear view mirror.
"I was thinking I haven't seen my brother in a really long time?"
"Ha Ha! Now tell me the real reason."
"Nick can't this wait until we get to the house? I really would like to make it there in one piece and without getting pulled over," requested Kassidy.
"OK," said a sheepish Nick as he backed off the accelerator.
"You must be Kassidy."
"Why must I be?"
"Kassidy is the only person I can think of who could tell him to do something when he's pissed and have him listen."
"That a fact?"
"That's a fact."
"I'm Kassidy. Lesley it's nice to finally meet you."
"Nice to meet you too. I remember when you two first hooked up, boy was mom pissed."
"Lesley," scolded Nick.
"Oops."
Kassidy looked from Lesley to Nick, but let it drop. Nick's jaw was clenched. She let him focus on his driving. Once at the house, Kassidy took the dogs out leaving them to talk.
"Lesley."
She interrupted, "I know. What the hell was I thinking?"
"Exactly. Do mom and dad even know you're gone?"
"Check your messages and tell me."
Nick checked his voicemail. "Nothing."
"Then they don't."
"Les tell me."
"Nick they were driving me crazy! I've worked so hard in the last four years and they still keep pushing. Also whenever I tried to learn the business side they shut me down. I'm 18 and I have a right to know where my money is going. I also want to make my own decisions."
"And they're clamping down tighter."
"Oh yeah."
"I remember."
"I know you do."
"Still running away isn't helping."
"Nick I couldn't take it anymore. I needed space to think. Plus I missed you. We all do."
"I miss you guys too," said Nick.
"I needed someplace safe to run."
"I'm glad you came here. How is everyone else?"
"OK."
Nick looked at his sister saying, "Lesley what aren't you telling me?"
"Things are about to get ugly."
"Tell me."
"We all want to have our family be family and business be business."
"And?"
"I've been meeting with my attorney. I'm a legal adult and I'm ready to make some changes."
"What changes?"
"I've been interviewing some new management."
"Wow. What happened to my little sister?"
"She grew up in the same business you did and she learned by watching you."
"I take it mom and dad don't know."
"No. Nick there's more."
"What?"
"Aaron and Angel are getting ready file papers to become emancipated minors."
"WHAT?"
"Listen to me. Aaron wants to separate family and business, but the only way he can do it is to become emancipated. Angel says she's not staying there if we're all gone."
"I can't believe this is happening. I didn't know."
"How could you? When I started asking questions like you use to they got mad. I told them I would just ask you. Did you notice how suddenly Aaron and my schedules picked up? Also how we went to LA instead of coming here for Christmas?"
"Mom said it was because Kassidy was here."
"What? I'm sorry. I was just bringing you guys something to drink. I'll leave."
"Kassidy stop," exclaimed Lesley.
"It's ok Lesley. I should have waited until you guys came and found me."
"Kassidy wait. That was the excuse Mom gave Nick. Truth is she didn't want us talking to Nick. They can feel their meal tickets slipping away."
"Oh Lesley that's horrible."
"Welcome to the family."
"Kass stay," requested Nick.
Lesley finished telling them the events leading up to the fight that brought her to Tampa.
After they had talked for a few minutes, Nick's phone rang. It was his mother. She was relieved Lesley was safe. However, when Nick said they had been talking his mother got nervous. She demanded Lesley be put on the phone. The conversation quickly escalated into a fight. Lesley refused to come back and threw the phone down.
Nick talked to his mother some more. He told her to give Lesley some time. He held firm and got off the phone to find Kassidy holding a sobbing Lesley. It broke Nick's heart that his parents had not learned from their mistakes with him. They didn't even realize repeating those mistakes was slowly costing them all their children.
BJ had fallen in love with one of the guys working for Max Martin. Now she was living mostly in Sweden. Lesley was going to sever ties with them for business matters, next were Aaron and Angel.
He helped calm Lesley down and got her settled in one of the guestrooms. He found Kassidy in his room with the dogs.
"Did she go to sleep?"
"Finally."
"Poor kid."
"I can't believe my parents."
"I'm so sorry Nick," she said as her voice caught.
"Kass what's wrong?"
"I'm sorry I'm the reason you didn't get to spend Christmas with your family."
"Shh," he soothed, pulling her into his arms. "That was the excuse they gave. Kassi they didn't want me there."
She looked at him and saw so much pain in his eyes.
"Tell me how to help."
"Just hold me."
"I've got you Nick. I'm not letting go."
They sat unmoving for a few minutes. Finally, Nick took in a ragged breath and pulled back to look at her. She ran her fingers through his hair. He kissed her. They both got up and undressed. Crawling into bed, no words were needed. They just held each other as they drifted off to sleep.
Chapter 44
"Lesley! How are you sweetheart?"
"Better. Come in."
"Les I want you to meet Grace Johnson. Grace this is one of Nicky's little sisters, Lesley."
"Hi Lesley. It's nice to meet you."
"Hi Grace. Nick and Kassidy are outside."
"Cool. So hear you ran away from home," said AJ as he wrapped his free arm around her.
The three walked out to find Kassidy and Nick playing with the dogs. Even though it was winter the sun shining made it comfortable outside. The dogs where very happy to see new people, but were very curious about the Vegas and JD smells on them. As Grace rubbed Mikey behind the ears, the sunlight reflected on her ring catching Kassidy's eye.
"Grace what haven't you told me?"
"Who me?"
"Yes you. Grace Johnson tell me this instant."
Grace looked at AJ who smiled. She said, "We're engaged."
Kassidy and Nick grabbed their friends and hugged them. The dogs were all barking. Lesley remained quiet.
"Wait. What about school," asked Kassidy.
"We aren't getting married until Pooh finishes."
"I'm really happy for you guys," said Nick.
"Do your parents know?"
"Mom does. She helped me pick out the ring," replied AJ.
"We are flying home next week to tell my parents."
"I will be sending up prayers. Call if you need me," said Kassidy.
"Thanks."
"What are you saying? They won't be thrilled to have me as their son-in-law?"
"It could happen, but don't hold your breath," teased Kassidy. "Have you set a date?"
"Let me graduate first," said Grace.
"I'd marry Pooh anytime."
"I would too baby. Well as long as I didn't have to plan it?"
"Are you serious Grace," asked Nick.
"Yeah. I don't care about doing all the planning," answered Grace. "Being married is the important thing."
"Lesley you haven't said anything. What do you think of me...Bone...gettin' married?"
"Surprised, but I hope you will be happy," she replied quietly. "I think I'll get something to drink. Do you guys want anything?"
Lesley took the drink orders and headed inside. She was staring blankly into the refrigerator when Kassidy walked in.
"Thought you might need some help."
"Thanks," said Lesley, pulling out sodas.
"Lesley are you OK?"
"Sure. Why do you ask?"
"Because you got awfully quiet when AJ and Grace shared their news."
"Nope. Nothing's wrong."
"Lesley look at me."
Lesley hesitated, but finally turned around. Kassidy saw the tears in her eyes and her chin quivering.
"Oh sweetie, come here," urged Kassidy.
Lesley ran over and hugged her. Tears sliding down her face. Nick started to come in, but stopped when Kassidy shook her head. She let the girl cry for a couple more minutes.
"So you like AJ."
"It's more than like. I've loved him for so long."
"I'm sorry you are hurting right now. I wish you weren't."
"Could you get Grace to break up with him," asked Lesley.
"Lesley sit down," directed Kassidy as she took a seat across from her. "I know this hurts, but it will pass. For what its worth, Grace and AJ truly love each other."
"I know."
"I realize you don't know Grace, but take the chance. I think you could be great friends."
"Yeah."
"So are you going to survive?"
"Yes. Kassidy?"
"What?"
"You didn't just come in to help get drinks did you."
"Not answering."
"Well thanks anyway."
"You're welcome. Now finish getting the sodas. I'll get the glasses."
"Kassidy are you going to move down here and live with Nick," asked Lesley as she pulled the last soda out and sat it on the counter.
"Woah! Where did that come from?"
"It's just that I can see you two love each other. Since you do, you should be together."
"Lesley, honestly I don't know. He hasn't asked."
"Well ya know my brother can be slow sometimes," laughed Lesley.
Kassidy chuckled, "He's not slow when he decides something. If and when he asks, I will decide."
"Fair enough. Got the glasses?"
"Yes, but Les go wash your face. You're all snotty."
"Oh Gawd," exclaimed Lesley as she ran down the hall.
After Lesley returned, they took the drinks outside. Kassidy made an effort to get Grace and Lesley talking. Soon they were trading Boner stories with AJ, the storyteller, joining in. Nick followed Kassidy when she went in for more drinks. Kassidy explained why Lesley was crying and made Nick promise to not say anything. Grace and AJ stayed for dinner. After they left
everyone settled in for the evening.
The phone woke Nick up the next morning.
"Hello?"
"Nick Carter?"
"Who wants to know?"
"This is Leroy Newman with the Enquirer. I am calling to get your statement on the situation with your family."
"What situation," he asked not fully awake.
"Well you parents say you have turned your bothers and sisters against them."
"What?"
"Nick what's going on?"
"Who is that Nick? Do you have a new lady love?"
"Mr. Newman of the Enquirer here is your response. No comment," he said and hung up.
"Nick?"
"Damn her!"
"Who?"
"Mom. She went to the Enquirer again," he said as he picked up the phone and dialed his parents' number.
He spent the next 45 minutes arguing with first his father, then his mother. Nothing was resolved. Except for the fact she confirmed she had talked to the Enquirer. They had argued with Aaron and he had let it slip that he was filing for emancipation and wanted to live with Nick. Jane and Bob Carter were trying to get Nick in line so he wouldn't let Aaron stay with him. They also wanted
him to kick Lesley out.
Nick was shaking with anger when he hung up the phone. The phone rang again. He refused to answer it. He would now have to change his home number, because his mother had given it to the reporter.
Suddenly, he cell phone on the dresser was ringing too. He let it go to voice mail. Kassidy convinced him to check his messages. The call had been from Angel. She had slipped out of the house to call him. His parents were keeping a closer eye on Aaron and had no idea Angel was
also filing for emancipation. Nick called the number she had left. It was a pay hone.
"Hello? Nick?"
"Angel are you OK?"
"No. This sucks Nick. They have locked Aaron in the house. He can't go anywhere without one of them," said Angel crying.
"Nick what's going on," asked Lesley as she wiped the sleep from her eyes.
Kassidy motioned her over to the bed and quietly explained while Nick talked to Angel. Nick calmed his youngest sister down. He convinced her to go back to the house. She had to convince Aaron not to do anything else until he got there.
"You need the name of their attorney?"
"Lesley can tell us when she hangs up."
"You are going to call your attorney. Tell him the situation, give him their attorney's name and let him go to work. Depending on how fast he can work this out is how fast you book our flight to LA."
"You going too?"
"You got it."
By evening everything was in place. The attorneys had managed to get a Judge to assign Nick as temporary guardian for both Aaron and Angel. Their flight was booked. Lesley said she would be fine in the house by herself, but Grace agreed to drive down the next day to check on her. Nick and Kassidy were at the airport by 5 am the next morning to catch their flight with Nick's
attorney and two of the BSB Bodyguards, Tom and Billy.
Their flight landed at LAX at 1 PM. Aaron and Angel's attorney was there to pick them up. They went directly to the house Nick had bought for the family right before he had broke away from his parents to become his own man.
His dad answered the door, stunned to see the group assembled on his front step. He tried to keep them out of the house, but the attorneys assured him he didn't want the police involved. Nick walked in and headed straight for Aaron's room. He found Angel there too. They were so happy to see Nick. Angel cried as she hugged her big brother. He quickly explained the situation. He called Kassidy to their room and introduced her. She helped Angel pack up her stuff, while Nick helped Aaron.
"Aaron and Angel you don't want to do this," pleaded Jane as they were leaving.
"Mom don't," said Aaron.
"Fine go. See what happens then. Think you can make it without our help? Think again."
Nick turned to Tom and Billy saying, "Fellas can you help them get settled in the car?"
Billy replied, "Sure Nick. Come on you two."
After they were outside, Bob said, "You won't win Nick."
"Dad I'm not trying to win. You shouldn't be either."
"Nick why are you doing this?"
"Mom I'm not doing this, you are. You didn't learn from your mistakes with me. Come on Kassidy."
"Kassidy...why does that sound familiar," asked Jane then realized. "You tried to get your hooks into my son years ago. How old are you now? 40? Still trying to hang on to your youth? Can't find a man your age who will have you?"
The attorneys got one look at Kassidy and Nick's faces and tried to get them out the door. It didn't work. Nick started to respond, but Kassidy stopped him.
"I am Kassidy Rivers. That's K-a-s-s-i-d-y R-i-v-e-r-s. Want to make sure you spell it correctly for the Enquirer. I am not 40. I'm 34. I've aged well unlike others, so I'm not trying to hang on to my youth. I like the age I am. I was involved with your son four years ago, but I walked away when the press and you made such a big deal about us. I bought into it, but not now. Did you know your son is an amazing human being? Well he is. He is kind, funny and very loving. And he's right you didn't learn from your mistakes and that is why all your children are running from you. For the record, if you call the Enquirer or spread any crap anywhere, we will tangle. I'm generally a nice person. However, do something to someone I love and you will find out what I'm capable of. Jane believe me when I say this...you are not equipped to handle me. Nice meeting both of you."
Once in the car, Kassidy said, "I think that went well."
"I've never hear anyone talk to mom like that before," stated Nick with a smile.
Aaron asked, "what did you say?"
"Nothing worth repeating," replied Kassidy. "Now how are you two?"
"OK," said Angel quietly as she looked at Aaron.
"Yeah," said Aaron with a catch in his voice.
Nick immediately pulled the twins into a hug and let them cry. Nick held reign on his emotions, even though he felt he had let them down by not being there. The twins cried, because they were making choices that hurt their parents, but couldn't be avoided. Aaron learned from what happened with Nick when their parents had control. If he wanted any of his money and himself
left when he was older; he had to take control now. Angel knew she would never make it if she were cut off from her brothers and sisters. Plus she would never give into her parents' demands that she 'do' something in the business.
Nick looked up at Kassidy and saw she was also crying. She reached out and touched his face. He rubbed his cheek against her palm and it brought him comfort. She had a way of doing that for him. Everyone pulled themselves together before entering LAX. Nick had booked a return flight for 5 PM.
Once on the plane Aaron pulled out his Gameboy, he and Angel played games during the flight. Tom and Billy slept and Nick's attorney worked. Their little group pretty much filled first class.
"You ok baby?"
"I think that's first time you've called me baby," said Nick with a tiny smile. "I'm alright. You?"
Kassidy wrapped her arms around his neck saying, "I fine. Just worried about you guys."
"Thank you for going."
"Of course, I went. I love you and will always be there when you need me."
"You love me? I mean I heard you say it to mom and dad, but..."
Kassidy silenced him with a kiss before saying, "Nick I love you. You have my whole heart. I'm not going to fight it anymore."
The remainder of the flight they cuddled and kissed. They whispered and acted like...well two people in love. Things weren't going to get any easier for them, but for right now all they wanted was to enjoy this moment together. Reality could have the driver's seat back tomorrow.
Chapter 45
"Grace is pretty AJ," commented Aaron, watching her walk into the kitchen.
"She's not pretty. She's beautiful Airboy."
"AJ why do you still call me that?"
"Cause I can. How you hangin' in there?"
"OK."
"Well if you guys need a place to chill away from big bro the door is always open."
"Thanks man."
"Sure. Now I need to find my Pooh. Happy New Year Airboy, stay out of the champagne."
"Happy New Year Bone," chuckled Aaron.
AJ wander through the small crowd gathered in his living room. He had decided to throw a New Years Eve/Engagement Party. Howie and Maddie were the only ones missing from the BSB couples. The entire band was there along with friends and family. Nick and Kassidy had
brought Aaron, Angel and Lesley. They all needed to have some fun. The two days since the twins had arrived were taken up with meetings. They would all fly back for the January 12th
court date.
AJ chuckled as he watched Lesley work her magic on the younger brother of a friend. He was glad she was handling the news of his engagement. No one said anything to him, but he had known about her crush for a long time. He was also happy she was becoming friends with Grace and Kassidy. All of Nick's siblings had taken to Kassidy, but when he thought about it, what was
there not to love about her? AJ kissed her cheek as he passed on his way to the kitchen.
"My Pooh has not danced with me all night," he announced upon entering the kitchen.
"My Bone hasn't asked me to dance all night. I guess he's SOL," teased Grace. "AJ put me down!"
"No," said AJ as he tossed her across his shoulder. "We dance now."
"Alexander James!"
"Yeah I'm scared," joked AJ.
Everyone laughed as he carried her into the living room. She was smacking his butt the whole way, but never stopped laughing. He sat her down and kissed her nose, pulling her close to his body as they danced to the Latin beat.
Kassidy went over to the guest acting as DJ and pulled out the Mandy Moore song "I Want To Be With You". She had him play it next. She knew it had special meaning for the couple. The song began, AJ kissed Grace and they swayed to the music. Nick pulled Kassidy over next to them and started dancing. Soon everyone was dancing.
At midnight everyone cheered and kissed. When Brian hugged Kassidy, he thanked her for looking after Nick. Just after midnight, Howie and Maddie called to wish everyone a happy New Year. They were having a blast on their honeymoon, but said they hadn't really done any sightseeing or anything. Everyone laughed.
As the party started winding down, Denise pulled Grace outside.
"Burr! Maybe we should have stayed inside," stated Denise, rubbing her arms for warmth.
"We can if you want."
"Aren't you freezing?"
"It's cool, but remember I come from the land of snow as Alex says."
"True," chuckled Denise. "I guess you figured out I didn't bring you out just to freeze."
"Didn't think so," replied Grace.
"I wanted a moment alone with you. Love my son, but he is always around."
"I've noticed."
"Yeah, but ya gotta love him."
"I do."
Denise said, "I know you do sweetie and he loves you too. I didn't think he was ever going to catch the clue bus."
"How so?"
"I realized when you two first met that you cared for him. He cared for you too, but was wrapped in Miss Thang."
"Melody was nice," defended Grace.
"Yes she was, but wrong for my son. You however are perfect for him."
"I don't know about that, but I love him."
"That is why you are perfect. You love him the way he is. You never tried to change him, but he has changed. He's become the man I wanted him to be all along. Sure he's still likes to think he's rough and tumble, but you bring out all the gentleness in him. You do it without making him sacrifice the other side. You understand him, which is a gift."
"Denise he gives me so much. He believes in me. He never questions if I can do something, which makes me believe I can. He also understands me. My bad moods don't put him off. It's so bizarre how he knows when I need him close and when he needs to give me space. His love has changed me too and I'm happy with who he's helped me become. I sound so sappy right now and so Jerry McGuire!"
Denise laughed and quoted, "I love him for the man he wants to be and for the man he almost is. I love him. I do and there is nothing you can do about it."
"Why are my two favorite girls standing in the freakin' cold quoting movie lines," asked AJ, stepping outside.
"For the fun of it," responded Grace.
"That's right," agreed Denise, hugging Grace. She whispered, "welcome to the family."
Grace whispered, "Thanks."
"Can we all go back inside," whined AJ.
"What a wimp," joked Grace.
"Tell me about it. You sure you want to marry the big baby?"
"Hello, I can hear you!"
"Good," retorted Grace, kissing him.
"OK the mom is going back inside. She doesn't need to see this PDA."
Grace and AJ followed Denise inside. Lesley, Angel and Aaron immediately pulled them into their bedroom. They had a favor to ask. After Lesley explained, Grace and AJ agreed to their request.
They all walked out into the living room. Brian and Leighanne were saying good night. Everyone was basically gone. Kristen and Kevin followed the Littrells out the door. Nick and Kassidy were dancing in the middle of the living room, completely lost in their own little world. Denise said
good night and headed for her house.
"Nick?"
"Go away Les."
"Nick!"
"What?"
"We need to tell you guys something."
Nick and Kassidy stopped dancing and looked at his brother and sisters.
"What guys," asked Nick.
"We have talked to AJ and Grace and we're staying here tonight."
"What," asked Nick looking at Grace and AJ, who had joined them.
"Yeah they are staying with us Nicky," responded AJ.
"Why," asked Kassidy.
"It's our Christmas present to you."
"Huh," replied both Nick and Kassidy.
The three siblings blushed, but Angel said, "Geesh guys. We are giving you a night alone. You know only you and well the dogs in that big house. You can do whatever you want."
Kassidy blushed and Nick said, "Got it."
"Seriously Nick, I know you guys haven't really had anytime alone since Kassidy got here. You deserve it," said Lesley.
"Besides if they stay tonight, they will be here to help with clean up in the morning," said AJ.
"Can I reconsider," asked Aaron.
"Aaron don't be a wuss," chided Angel.
"Alright," pouted Aaron.
"It's settled," said Grace. "You two get out of here. Call us when you are ready for them to come home."
After Nick and Kassidy left, AJ told the three siblings they had the run of the things. The only rules were no doing serious damage to the house, no fighting, no drinking alcohol left from the party and no disturbing Grace and him. Well unless the house was on fire, one of them lost a limb or died, or the cops showed up.
He picked Grace up and put her over his shoulder. She fussed all the way up the stairs. However the look in AJ's eyes immediately silenced her once in the bedroom. There was no mistaking what he had in mind. He did surprise her when he pulled her into the bathroom. He turned on the shower and undressed her. Disappeared after putting her under the water. She was enjoying the feel of the water cascading over her body when she felt the breeze he caused when joining her. He washed her hair first, then her body. Teasing her with his hands. He loved the sighs escaping her mouth when he lightly sucked on the back of her neck. He growled against her skin when her wet body began to move against him. After a few minutes of teasing, AJ pushed her legs further
apart and bent her slightly. He entered her warmth and shivered. Grace moaned when he began slow measured thrusts. Her hands were braced against the wall. His arms were on her hips. AJ began to pick up the tempo, gripping her hips. The water poured down over them as their tempo increased. Grace climaxed first and the feeling of her contracting around him pushed AJ over
the edge. Their bodies slowed as they took in ragged breaths. AJ pulled out of Grace when the water started getting cold. She turned and kissed him.
"Happy New Year Alex."
"Happy New Year Pooh, but we're not done."
With that said, AJ picked her up and carried her into the bedroom. He sat her down next to the bed. Picking up a fluffy towel, he began drying her skin.
Grace looked at what was laid out on the bed. She was curious about what AJ had in mind. He silenced her with a kiss when she tried to ask. After he dried her body, he reached for the thong and slipped it on her. He kissed her then picked up the bra. Sliding the straps onto her shoulders he moved behind her to fasten the hooks. It was all black velvet. Next, the babydoll gown was slipped over her head. It had velvet straps and bodice, but the rest was sheer silk. AJ placed a garter belt low on her hips and had her sit on the end of the bed. He picked up one silk stocking and teasingly pulled it up her leg. He took his time in closing the fasteners. He repeated this with the other leg and by the time he had the fasteners closed Grace was squirming. He smiled at her before capturing her lips.
Suddenly she found herself in his arms again as he moved her to the top of the bed. She was lying back against the new burgundy comforter he had bought before Christmas. Grace watched as he walked over to the dresser. He was so comfortable with in his nudity. It never occurred him to cover his body. She was glad for the opportunity to study him. She loved the way his muscles worked under his skin. The tattoos accentuated the effect. When he turned to face her, Grace noticed two things. First how aroused he was and second he was holding a disposable polaroid camera. AJ started talking the second he saw her go pale.
"Pooh don't freak on me."
"AJ what are you doing with that camera?"
"I want a picture of you."
"Doing?"
AJ laughed, "Pooh I would not take pictures of us like that. Well not without talking to you first."
"Alex."
"I saw this out shopping. I could see you in it. I wanted to dress you then I wanted a picture to keep with me."
"Keep with you?"
"Yeah. Grace you look so sexy. I want to remember this moment. Can I please take the picture?"
Grace thought for a moment, then said, "OK."
"Cool!"
AJ posed her, taking several pictures. When he had the shots he wanted there was still film left. Grace grabbed the camera and made him lay down on his stomach. She took a picture of him that way. Then she had him prop up against the headboard. She placed pillows strategically making AJ laugh. She took another picture. Finally AJ could wait no longer. It was fun dressing her, but now he wanted her undressed. He grabbed her, pulling her on the bed and under him. He took the camera from her as he kissed her.
"Grace open your eyes," he whispered.
She did and there was a flash. "Ow! Alexander James!"
"Shhh. I'm sorry about the flash, but I love the way you look now."
"How's that?"
"Like a woman about to be satisfied."
"Really now."
"Yes now."
AJ laid the camera and pictures on the nightstand. Turning his attention back to Grace he allowed his hands to move over the material on her body. She arched to meet them. He was moving against her. She tangled her fingers in his hair and kissed him. He sat up and pulled her gown over her head. Her chest was rising and falling rapidly in anticipation. He lowered his mouth to her breast, kissing the flesh exposed above the bra. She moaned and arched against him again. Her legs locking around his waist. He groaned and reached behind her, undoing the bra. Suddenly it seemed like his mouth and hands were everywhere. She arched more when she felt him pull on the ring in her belly button. He moved her legs and removed the thong by tearing it, but left the garter and stockings on. He again pulled on the ring. Grace couldn't wait any longer. She pulled his face up to hers and kissed him. She rolled him to his back. He sat up as she raised her hips and allowed him to enter her. He kissed her passionately. Her fingers tangled in his hair and pulled his head back, exposing his neck to her mouth. His hands moved to her hips. He moved her on him. AJ growled when he felt Grace pull on his nipple ring. She chuckled then did it again causing his body to jerk. Suddenly she pushed him down on the bed. With her hands on his chest she moved faster. She never lost eye contact as she raked her nails down his chest. His body bucked up into her. With a low growl he reversed their positions again. Now he was thrusting into her hard. She was griping him inside and out. He felt his release building and let go when she raked her nails down his back. Feeling his release brought on Grace's. AJ found her lips and kissed her, their bodies still moving. He broke the kiss and collapsed on her. She held him tight. They both were gasping for air. As their heart rates slowed, she kissed his cheek.
"I think this is going to be a damn good year," he said.
"Me too."
