THEY WENT THATAWAY
(an original poem by Mitch aka handsomea)

All your heroes are gone Grandpa
Roy and Gene were the last to go
Bet they are up there with you now
Watching a western moving picture show

You plunked down a dime for a ticket, then
Cheered the cowboys as they rode and fought
Hopalong said the matinees were an adventure
Tho there were lessons to be taught

Tall in the saddle Durango Kid showed
That a he-man could be polite
Don "Red" Barry preached that a
Straight shooter must always do right

Wild "Bill" Elliott rode Thunder hard
Chasing outlaws all over the west
He was a peaceable man
But he never let evil rest

Oh, how you loved them Grandpa
Those disciples in chaps of leather
As a kid they taught you many virtues
And made your life a whole lot better

Yes the guys in the white hats are gone
I point toward heaven and say
In a somber tone
"They went thataway"
