Tools: dremel, hacksaw, wrench
Materials: 3 bolt 2.5" id exhaust flange,
3 bolt 2.5" aluminum flange gasket, 6" 2.5" id flex section
2.5" mandrel U-bend, 2.5" exhaust pipe (muffler shop has this)
The downpipe was the only part I could not
fabricate myself. What I did was to drive down to the
local muffler shop ( Ross Mufflers, Leander,
TX )sans downpipe but with the parts to make one
and explained what I wanted done. I
hung around the whole time to answer any questions and make
sure the job was done how I wanted.
Ross used 2.5" exhaust piping he had that was crush bent. The
crush bending was not so bad as the bender
doesn't wrinkle it at the bend but instead a creates a
gentle 1/8" reduction in diameter where the
bends were. Unfortunately I didn't have a cat flange
so he just welded it straight to one end of
the cat. I can always put a flange in later. I'd like to
mention that a 3" downpipe is much better
but there are more clearance issues to resolve and 3"
id flex section cost significantly more.
Here's the parts I brought in. The 3
bolt flange and gasket had to be slightly modified to fit the turbo
flange. I merely elongated the bolt
holes all the way to the edge of the flange.
