When not putting together websites for various reasons, or chasing after small screaming children, I am employed by the US Navy as a Fire Inspector at NAS JRB Fort Worth, Texas. I lucked into the job after my enlistment in the US Coast Guard ran up. I served two and one half years aboard the Tamaroa, beginning as an E-2 and coming off of her as a Damage Controlman Third Class E-4. It was very exciting to be stationed aboard a ship such as the Tamaroa, though if you would have asked me while I was aboard, my answer probably would have been very different. It is definitely not the type of life for a newly married couple. If I were single, I would have probably never gotten out of seagoing duties, for it can be thoroughly enjoyable for a single male. It has all of the qualities a young man craves; possible adventure, steady job, decent pay, food, shelter, and a chance for a girl in every port. The only downside was the long, tedious hours of work, and the chance of being swept away at sea from time to time.
After the Tamaroa was decommissioned, I was assigned a tour at Support Center Kodiak, Ak, as a member of the fire department. I received my fire protection training from the US Air Force and eventually landed my position here in Fort Worth, TX, my home town.
