Medina Valley 21 - New Braunfels 34

On November 17 at Matador Stadium in Seguin, the 2000 Medina Valley Varsity Football team played their last game. On a cold, wet field, we lost our Bidistrict playoff game.
We scored first, on a 30 yard field goal by Zach Butler. In reality, he should have been booting the Extra point, but a touchdown was called back on an "inadvertant whistle" by the referee. on New Braunfels' next possesion, Tate Taylr busted a fifty yard touch down to give the Unicorns the lead. However, the PAT was no good and we were only down by three. We got the ball back around our own 35, and drove the field on nine plays to score our first touchdown of the night on a five yard run by Fitz. Our PAT went awry as well, and our lead was 9-6. New Braunfels put together a short drive to score a TD before the half, after we were stopped, and Fitz dislocated his knee, and we went into the locker room down by 4, 13-9. The third quarter was the New Braunfels show. Taylor scored on a 70 yard run to open the second half, and their lead increased to 20-9. New Braunfels scored again before the end of the third quarter. With twelve minutes left we were trailing 27-9. After another New Braunfels score we went to 2 minute offense and scored two touchdowns to end the game. The first was a short pass to Trey, and Fitz scored the last TD from a few yards out, even though he was wearing a heavy knee brace and cold barely walk. This was a great season, and unfortunatly my last at Medina Valley. It was great fun going out and winning Medina Valley's first 4A District Championship. Hopefully we have established a trend that will continue for years to come. Thanks to everyone who came out to all those games and supported us. |
