My Live Journal

Who am I. Hmmm. Let's see.

Well, I am a single professional guy. I take great pride in being successful. I work hard and I enjoy my career as a computer programmer or software engineer. It's a hard job to understand if you are not involved in it. I have worked my way up to a supervisory position, and I have my own team to manage. I really enjoy sports. I grew up loving sports and participated in a few sports in my prime. Although, as the years go by I find myself not participating as much. I have a little of that old "ex-football gut" that is joked about. It's amazing how your priorities change after you get into the "real world". So my playing days are in the past. Now I am just a casual athlete. I am still competitive, but I stick to the more social sports.

Here is some more information about the Steve that the world sees. Stats: 5'8", blue eyes, relatively tan, brown hair which I keep short conservative looking, semi-athletic build (no longer the lean mean athlete I was in the past). I wear a suit during the week, and go without the jacket a lot. I wear shorts when I can. I can live in shorts around the house. I wear jeans and polo type shirts, both short and long sleeves. I do own some Docker pants, and they are very comfortable. When I was younger, I thought Docker pants were the end of the line. I am mostly a casual type person.

Now for what the world doesn't see. What makes me tick?

I am very family oriented. I have not started my own yet, but I keep in touch with my family. My parents live about 45 minutes away from me. I go over there every few weeks. My father is a high school football coach, and was mine as well. So, we are close and were while I was growing up. He was a good role model. My mother worked various places primarily with schools. So, we have summers off as a family and went camping and did various things, which was cool. My brother, who is a police officer, is four years older than I am. He is married and has two kids. Those kids are the best in the world. My nephew who was five in April of 2001, is very smart. My niece who was born in March of 2001 is just too adorable. She has to be the most wonderful baby in the world. Yes, I like to brag about them. My brother's wife is a school teacher. I visit them when I can and see the great kids. They live about 30 minutes away, and I see them about once a month or less.

I am a pretty conservative and quiet person. I tend to sit back and observe when in new situations. I try to learn about everything that is going on, which makes me fail as a mingler. Unless I meet up with someone that just loves to talk, then I am great as a listener which makes them think I am a great conversationalist. Go figure. I joke around with the poeple I know. I consider myself as a witty person. I like to add my two cents into the coversations at the appropriate times. Other times, I know when to keep my mouth shut.

I don't mind staying at home at nights. I love to watch movies. I have various TV shows that I like as well. I enjoy the "Law and Order" , "The Practice", and "CSI" type dramas. I like Survivor and Big Brother type reality TV shows. Survivor for the competitive nataure, and Big Brother for the people watching. I can watch almost any type of movie. I will stick with most movies that I start watching to the end. I like thinking movies. Movies that jump around don't bother me at all. Some of the movies I like are "The Usual Suspects", "Pulp Fiction", "The Sixth Sense" and "Presumed Innocent". I like action, adventure, drama, romantic comedy, comedy, and thriller. I am ok with some independent films. I may not agree with the subject matter, but I just watch it for the film. I read on occasions. I usually do that in spurts. I get into a reading kick, and that happens sometimes when I go on vacation.

I like to play cards with my friends. We usually play about once a month. We play dealer's choice poker. We trade money. Playing over the years, you learn what comes around goes around. I go on trips with friends from work. Sometimes we have work related trips. We go hunting or fishing as groups from work, and that gets partially paid for. I have started a yearly ski trip, which has just barely gotten started. February 2002 will be our 2nd annual. I play travel agent for that. The Internet is your friend. Snow skiing is awesome. We go to Heavenly ski resort in California/Neveda, where you get to ski by day and gamble in the casinos at night. What more can you ask for? Ok, ski bunnies.

I have lived in Texas all of my life. Yes, a native! I have lived all around the greater Houston area. I have lived in six different locations. Surprisingly enough, I only lived in three places before I graduated from high school. That is not real common for 18 years when your father is a coach. I guess I lied to you already, as I did live in Nacogdoches, Texas when I was going to college. I played football and ran track in school. Then I only ran track in college. I stayed relatively injury free during that athletic career, with exception to getting stitches in my eye lid and some strained muscles. Then I graduated from college with my degree in Computer Science and minor in statistics from Stephen F. Austin State University. Then I ended my football career for real when I broke my ring finger on my right hand, while playing flag football in my companies league. Thirteen or fourteen seasons without incedent, and then its all over after one cold December night and one or two fluke plays. I shattered the joint on the end of my finger, and the surgical attempt to rebuild the joint failed. So, that joint is bent forward a little permanantly. I decided to hang up my cleats after that, as I was a receiver. Now, I stick to volleyball and golf.

I like to travel. I have been to varoius US states, like Hawaii, Lousiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah, Idaho, and Montana. I have been out of the counrty to Mexico, Norway, and Denmark. I like to stay in the country. Hawaii is great. I have been to two islands (Oahu and Hawaaii "the big island") out there. I also love to snow ski, so another favorite place is South Lake Tahoe (Heavenly ski resort). I have also been skiing at Telluride, and I would pick Heavenly over it.
