Doria Roberts

For those of you who dont know who Doria Roberts is then you are definetly missing out on an amazing musician and talented songwriter. She is not only noted as a "fierce folk singer", she is also a very beautiful and intriguing woman. Doria performs as a soloist and is also the front woman for her three-piece combo. She reveals her efforts toward social change, musical activism, she has served as the organizer of the Queerstock Tour & Festival for 6 years and has produced a "compilation cd to benefit GLBT youth organizations throughout America".

My friend Krys and I created a world all our own swapping music and poetry in the Fall of 2000. It wasn't until one certain night that she demanded I download two songs, "Perfect" and "Thinking of You", by a musician named Doria Roberts. I have been hooked ever since!! As a true fan, I have shared Doria with some of my closest friends bc music like hers shouldn't be kept a secret.

After hearing her songs I wanted to see this girl perform in concert but was sad to find out that she only performed in Texas once a year. It was kinda hard for me to get to Austin, Texas at the time so for two whole years I missed her only show...that is...until November 2003...

2003 HOUSTON WOMEN'S FESTIVAL

Doria participated in the Houston Women's Festival which took place downtown at Jones Plaza until it began to rain really hard that afternoon. The organizers then decided to move the performers to Chances Bar . The bar was so packed that I had to stand and also sit on the floor due to lack of seating!

After her performance, Doria took her place over at a vacant pool table by the entrance of the bar. She and her assistant were selling cds, posters, pins and of course greeting fans. Doria was so beautiful and sweet in person! She was freaking out when I was explained how I had been waiting to see her perform since 2000 and how I live 6 hours away, lol Since she rarely travels to Texas, I took full advantage of this event bc I didnt know when I would see her again. I also made her laugh bc I explained how I kept my copy of the Velvet Park Magazine she was featured on in a plastic protective sheet! LMAO

Here is Doria talking about how big of a state Texas is. She was saying how she was driving through hills and trees when all of a sudden she is driving through desert area and realizes she's STILL in Texas! lol

On the left is the "Alive & Well" cd cover that she autographed - On the right is a poster that she signed, I quickly bought a frame for it at Target the very next day.

I am really glad that I had the chance to see Doria Roberts perform and also to meet her in person. She is such a beautiful and sweet person that surpassed every expection I had of her! I can't wait to see her in concert again & mark my words, "Whenever and wherever she is in Texas I WILL be there!"
