A Casting of Light
By:Carol Huber

A Casting of Light

Some things cast their own light
Such as courage born in fear
Generosity in dire straits
Kindness when in tears

A stand against intolerance
The spread of joy and love
All who hold fast to diversity
Those who try to rise above

The one who'll die to save a child
The custodians of the land
The lifeguard giving CPR
All those with helping hands

The workman out in freezing rain
The teacher who inspires
The cop who walks into harm's way
The ones who fight the fires

Each act creates a new light
A little ray of hope
Which bundled fuel the spotlights
As through our lives we grope

The tightropes we all travel
The bridges we each face
Are built of light strands left by those
Who share with us of grace

So, light candles in the darkness
Leave flares to mark your trail
Turn lights on in the tunnel
Hang lanterns from the sail

Fireworks ascending
Many colored flaming sparks
Remind us to reach out with love and
Cast our light within the dark
