Lost and Found

Lost And Found
Vicky Stavrides

(My gratitude to the only person who has ever been there for me,
without
wanting something back)

There once was a girl lost
Not lost in the street crying
But lost inside herself
Having given up trying.

She was locked up
Cos she was bad
My daddy put her there
When he was really mad.

In the dark….so black
Laying on the floor
Reaching out and touching
The light under the door.

Feeling the draught
Upon her fingertips
With teartracks down her cheeks
And her tummy feeling sick.

Growing up, getting older
When the world should have been at her feet
She was letting every single person
Treat her like a piece of meat.

Valium? Vodka?
Escaping her own nightmare
Dragging herself through
Believing nobody would really care.

Then, out of the blue
Came somebody from afar
The distance kept her safe
And she saw him in the stars.

Bit by bit
She opened the door
Leaning on him
Every day achieving more.

Looking out the window
In the field across the way
I sometimes see that girl
And smile as I watch her play.

The girl was trapped inside me
There was nothing I could do
Until I found the strength and courage
And the person that helped me was you!

Eternally grateful
