Our first issue of Survivor Haven went live on March 1, 2001. At that time the work featured were from authors who had self-published their stories and poems at the now defunct Themestream.com.That first month saw the grand total of fifty readers but knowing a following would take time, the second issue of Survivor Haven was offered on April 1, 2001
April was an exciting time. With Themestream out of business, our options were to find other sites that offered writers a chance to write about abuse or start publishing work at Survivor Haven itself. We chose to do both.
Learning by way of trial and error, pages were made for those authors who believed in Survivor Haven enough to submit their work. Since that time the areas and pages of Survivor Haven have grown in an unbelievable but encouraging manner. April saw 250 visitors.
The May 2001 issue was one of our most popular one to date. New areas were added and the feed back from our readers has been heartwarming.
In the June 2001 issue we once again added new areas including a library, additional self-defense articles and new rooms to the art gallery.
The July 2001 issue was our first Independence Day Celebration.
Building on the idea of an "theme" for the issues, the August issue was the result of a call for submissions. I asked for personal stories of how survivor's coped with their abuse. Some turned to food, others drugs and alcohol while still some took to cutting and self-mutilation.
Our September 2001 issue was one of information for the abused. It offered options to those who were in abusive situations or who suspected abuse of their child.
In October Issue horror and evil were faced head on both by survivors and the rest of the world.
The November Issue dealt with the many thanks we have, even as survivors of abuse. Some of the reasons for thanks my surprise or even shock you.
In December we spoke of the holidays and how it affects each of us differently. To all of our authors and readers, I would like to offer a heartfelt "Thank you!"
January 2002 was a time of new beginings and resolutions.
A look into Valentine's Day, love and even mothers in our February 2002 Issue.
Our April 2002 issue was our anniversary issue!
Due to personal reasons, Survivor Haven had to change from a monthly to a semi-montly endeavor. This wasn't an easy decision but was the only option at the time. May 2002 was the first time we didn't have an issue but in June we came back as strong as ever.
June/July 2002 issue
Our Sept/Oct 2002 issue saw not only several returning favorites but also a large number of new contributors.
With each issue Survivor Haven seems to be growing and bringing in new congributors. This was evident in the Winter 2003 issue.
