Out of the night that covers me,
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
It matters not how straight the gait

If this doesn't sum up the feelings of a survivor fighting his or her road to recovery, I don't know what does.
The road to recovery from rape and/or abuse must begin with each of us as an individual. The need to fight back and retake our lives must be stronger than our fears.
These fears can be of the very real threat of a physically abusive spouse or partner that at times literally holds our very life in his or her hands or the fear can occur while facing our past, admitting it happened and fighting to move past it.
While this road must be begun by you the individual, it doesn't have to be traveled alone.
Rape, child emotional, physical and sexual abuse, domestic abuse, elderly abuse and the often ignored forms of self abuse, know no socio-economic boundaries. These crimes know no bigotries because they occur within every race, religion and country. Abuse happens every single moment of every day to someone, be it a child, a wife, husband, partner, parent or grandparent. Young, old, infant or nursing home inhabitant, abuse happens and each of these survivors will need to find their own path from victim to survivor.
