Healing Steps

By: Susan Maree Jeavons

For a long time
I couldn’t find her;
she was lost somewhere
between innocence and shame.
Sometimes, I would catch
a glimpse of her,
reach out to her
and call her name
but she would run away;
still afraid to trust.
Little by little
we conquered the past.
Now, we walk
hand-in-hand,
heart-to-heart,
together at last...
