Twisted Fairy Tale
By:Michele Spangler-Wiedmann
“Do fairy tales come true?” she asked.
“Oh yes, my dear, they do.
Come sit a while and I will share
A fairy tale with you.”

“A pretty girl named Goldilocks
Found herself all alone
Off she ventured into the world
To find herself a home.
She came across a cottage
Just as cute as it could be,
With furniture and curtains
And a table set for tea.
‘How perfect!’ she said, happily.
‘Now here’s where I can live.
I’ll cook, I’ll clean, I’ll decorate,
And give all that I can give.’
Her reverie was shattered
By a pounding on the door.
A big bad wolf burst in the room
And pushed her to the floor.
‘Why are you here?’ she whispered.
‘What do you want from me?’
‘First I want some food,’ he snarled.
‘Then after that, we’ll see…’
He reached as though to grab her
And she screamed with all her might.
To her surprise the door swung wide -
In rushed a shiny knight.
His sword was swift and mighty
As he quickly slew his foe,
Then he stood tall, reached out his hand;
He smiled and said, ‘Let’s go.’
‘You’ll be my queen, you will be loved
By everyone, you’ll see.
I’ll take you to my castle
Where you will live with me.
‘How perfect!’ she said, happily.
‘Now I have found my dream.’
But little did she realize
Things were not quite as they seemed.
That night up in the castle
As Goldilocks lay down
The knight came rushing in the room
His face an angry frown.
His shiny armor gone now,
His hot breath reeked of ale
His eyes glared at her body
As she stumbled and went pale.
‘Hello, Sir Knight,’ she stammered.
‘What do you want from me?’
‘First I want a kiss,’ he snarled.
‘Then after that, we’ll see.’

“Yes, fairy tales come true,” I said,
“If this is how they read.
There is no room for fantasy
In this world of lust and greed.
If home is what you’re looking for
Stop seeking it outside.
Look for your home within your soul
And safely there abide.”
