"A Turn of the Wheel"
By:Michelle SmithAngry accusations of sin
left me felling small and alone on a cold hard bench never at home -
not in the house of the Lord
nor in the house of my Stepfather
Darkness brought fears
touches that terrified
with their betrayal
Morning's light
smudged the edges
of midnight's nightmare and soundless screams
School became sanctuary
books distract
the playground swing
my greatest escape
Years of anger
fear
self-doubt
worthless-hateful mess of a heart
confusion reigned supreme
Discovery of the Goddess within and without
sense of self rediscovery
rebirth
Reunited with Sun-God
rays warm my face and soul
I find my place on the swing again
Goddess-Moon and stars
replace fear with hope
terror with awe-inspired by beauty
Candle flame burns
incense cleanses space and time
pentacle of elements signify all of importance -
Soul, Fire, Water, Earth, and Air
arms outstretched - beseeching, praising,
open and alive
Love and light
Blessed be -
I reclaim my Life.
