Desktop charger for Nokia $9.99

Introduction

The Nokia 3390 Gold AIM Edition is a new low-end model made especially for Voicestream. Although the ordinary Nokia 3390is available for other US Carriers this one has a special AIM User Interface built in. The Menu interface is very similar to other Nokia's especially that of the aging 5100/6100 series.

Pros

This is one of the best phone i have used. It has many ups and not many downs. Let me start. It has better reception than most Nokia's. You have to watch where you place your fingers. You have to keep it away from where it says "Nokia" The internal antenna is right there. It's really noticeable if you are touching it because it will start to "warble". If you go in a building and you lose coverage and you go into another area with signal it will pick it up right away. My Nokia 5190 took a LONG time picking up Voicestream again. Especially in tunnels. This phone is extremely light 4.2 oz. My Nokia was a brick compared to the Nokia 3390 weighs about the same as a Motorola 2397. The Nokia 3390 is very small and compact and really easy to lose. I put my phone in my back pocket and forget that i have it at all. This unlike many older phones comes with built in vibration. It is pretty strong enough to scare you. It comes with 6 profiles you can rename 5 of them. I have mine setup for school home and quiet. This phone is extremely customizable. Don't like the gold cover on it? The Nokia 3390inherited the X-Press on covers from the 5100/6100 series. I got a green back and front for $6 at a local flea market. I noticed that it does not fit *really* secure and cause the vibration to sound loud. To fix this i got a piece of paper and folded nicely under the battery. SMS is extremely fun to send. If you subscribe to the right plan you might not go over. You can send SMS message up to 460 characters. If you send one and read it it will say "Updating Message" and you get the entire 3 part message in that SMS. SMS is extremely popular with high school student. I went over once and sent 1,710 Text messages. Got a real expensive bill that month. AIM is built in the phone as Menu 13. You have the option to sign in, view options, and see the status of your IM contacts. You know when you are signed in because you will see the AIM logo on the top right side of the screen. Really neat although you must refresh the screen manually to see if people come on or offline you can set the phone to do it every 60mins to 99 mins. You can set alerts to avoid doing that. When you get an IM it vibrates for a few and makes 3 quick short chirps. On the standby screen it say "Instant Message from:Screename." The AIM logo will wave it's hand. If you turn the phone off it will log you off and you have to sign in manually. Another neat feature is that you can "View History" which shows you the entire conversation. The conversation is stored until you hit "End Discussion" It comes with T-9 so you can type quicker and sends the *message instantly* where as on the 5190 you wait for it to say "Message sent" Another neat feature is "Ringtone Composer" it lets you make your own ringtone and save it or send it to other people. You can find key presses for just about any song on the internet. One feature new to me is "Voice Dial" You can save 8 names under 2 seconds long and associate them with the names in the Phone book. You press Menu for about 2 secs and it says "Please Speak now." say the name and it says "Calling, ...Quit? Then it dials. Another feature is the ability to assign ringtones to anyone in the phone book. A wide range of 40 ringtones includes many of the same from other Nokia. Bee, Mosquito, Samba, Reveille...Etc. The 5 empty slots are for ringtones you can download from Voicestream's Website As of March 11th they launched a new selection of ringtones. They cost 99¢ and will be charged on your phone bill.

Cons

Although the phone seems to be great there are a few things that are quite annoying such as the short battery life. The BMC-2 850mah battery dies pretty quick with normal use you get about 1 1/2 days of "talk time" and Standby. If you have the vibration on it will die even quicker. Another small annoyance is the battery cover. It is REAL hard to get off...You have to push it a specific way or it will not come off. Also, It is really an inconvenience to remove the battery to change the SIM card. The phone has NO internal battery so you have to change your SIM card within 10 secs.I Noticed if you change your card the clock goes ahead 1 hour. Earpiece volume is low not as loud as other phones but OK. If you are signed into AIM and you select a profile and lock the keys the time disappears. It's not really a bug but there is not enough room to hold all that stuff on the first line. Also if you change your SIM card...The assigned ringtones are gone and never come back. You need to re-assign them. Voice Dial tags don't however. Also you CAN read and send messages while on the phone but you can't send AIM messages.

Overall though

This is the best phone i have ever used. Clear calls an over abundance of accessories available. Small, Sleek, lightweight and best of all cheap. Check Voicestream, Often times they are free with approved credit. Just plain great. At first i was reluctant to try it cause "it wasn't me." Boy did i change my mind quick. Overall Good Performance all the way.
