This information was given to Mrs. George Fisher, the former Bessie Jordan, daughter of Maggie Davis Jordan, by Mrs. Bake High, the daughter of George W. Gay, the brother of Caroline Washington Gay who married Thomas Fisher (1811-1867)
Charles Gay came from Virginia to North Carolina, but George Gay, a brother, remained in Virginia. George Gay, son of Charles who came from Virginia, was born in Nash Co, North Carolina in the year 1839. He was the youngest child, having four brothers and two sisters older than he. One of the sisters, Caroline, married Tom Fisher who also supposedly born in Virginia and Tom Fisher came to Nash County during slavery times overseered in nearby counties. The other sister of George Gay, Mary Gay married Jesse Henderson Ba ttle Edwards, perhaps brother of Battle Edwards, uncle or brother to Sarah Edwards, the second wife of Tom Fisher.
George W. Gay (1839- 1896) married Mary Vick about 1858. His daughter, Pat Gay married Bake High. Another daughter, Belle Gay married a Collie, a son, Samuel Gay born abt 1864 in Red Oak, Nash Co. NC.
Charles B Gay, son of Charles & Sarah, was born 1828 in Nash Co. and had a son, Joseph Gay, born 1859.
William Gay, son of Charles & Sarah, was killed in the Civil War 1865..
James Allen Gay, son of Charles & Sarah, born 1825 and married Elizabeth Edwards and had Mollie Gay (Ward), Lucy Gay (Clark), James Mack Gay (1861-1939) and Robert Ransome Gay (1864-1947)
Cousin Bessie Jordan Fisher sent another paper with this information:
"I think Orange County Court house in Virginia is the place to trace
the
Fisher
Ancestry and I think the Gay's were close by. If I remember aright, the
Gay
home was turned into a home for Civil War Veterans and was called
"Soldier's
Rest",
from what I've read. I have Davis papers in the Hall of History in
Raleigh,
NC,
copied from Philadelphia Library while visiting my daughter, Eunice; "
The ancestry of William Fisher born Oct 3rd. 1803 included Richard
Warren who
came to America in 1620 on the Mayflower. Elias Fisher born 1745.
John J.
Fisher, Orange Court House, Virginia to Fisherville, Kentucky."
Minnie-Jo went to Orange Co, Va. in 1954 but did not know much about
research.
"I found names of Gays and Fishers all similar to ours, but were they
ours?
My oldest child was born April 26, 1954 and was just months old and I
could
not be away but one night. Norman and I had to hurry back to her."
