This old tin type is thought to be a picture of John Mabrey Fisher. He was the only child of Thomas Fisher to leave North Carolina. After his marriage to Martha Lanmon, he migrated to Texas sometime after the Civil War.
Almost all of Thomas Fisher's children raised their families in North Carolina. However, his fourth son John Mabrey Fisher moved to Texas sometime after the Civil War. Pictured here is his wife Martha Ann Lanmon Fisher.
Wiley Fisher, the son of John and Martha Lanmon Fisher, was a prominent sheriff in Belton, Texas, until 1926, when he was murdered in the street by a man who had run against him for office.
The man never went to trial because he too was gunned down in the street while out on bond. Wiley's sons were suspects, but no one was ever prosecuted.
