Wow is all I have to say about this game. First of all the gaming world witnessed FF2 which was a critically acclaimed game.The historic setting in the past was a success. People thought that the game would never be topped. Boy were they wrong!This is a total masterpiece. Even the FF's of today cannot come even close to the utopia of gaming that was revealed to me a few years ago.First of all the game has a great storyline.One of the best I might add. Each character has their own complex yet enterainful past. The character Celes is a former general and now deemed a traitor.Edgar has his own kingdom. All of which plays an important role in the game. And by heavens no. There are about 16 characters in the game.3 of which are either hidden or optional.
The one thing that this game had that it's predecessor did not was flexability.Not only could you skip on getting diffrent party members but also certain events. While it seems somewhat minimal it really adds some replay value as you will want to play it again but this time you might try to find all of the characters.The magic and stat system is simple. You equip espers on a party member{up to two}. Each esper has their own spells to learn and special level up bonuses like %20 up hp at every level gain.
The game has it's serious moments as well as funny. I like the opera singing area of the game. Also the auction is a great addition to the game.
The overall picture is this. The enemies and characters are well designed and the backgrounds are beutiful for a 16 bit system. The music is top notch, probably my favorite gaming soundtrack of all time, as well as the enviroment and story. The optional stuff and fun battles make it for tremendous replay.The evil villian is not only bad but also funny. This is a perfect game and may be my favorite of all time.This is a buy PERIOD!The cost may be a little steep for a dead system,due to availability, but will be well worth it.If your poor then rejoice because there are emulators out there that allow you to play this game for free.But hey if you have the money then buy one of the truly epic games to ever be created.
