What can I say. I simply downloaded this game just to see how it was since it was only 2 megabytes big.I really was not expecting much in the gameplay department or graphics wise so when I actually started to play the game I was not too disapointed. The game engine is like a breed between Tecmo Super Bowl and Play Action Football, both nice games by the way. The view of the field is sideways and the game is a obvious arcade style game. How did it fare?
Well the good things are that for an early title this is pretty good. Unlike older versions of the EA sports games, this one actually kept my attention for more than one drive. The graphics are okay at best as well as the music. There is a pretty good selection of teams and a pretty nice sized play book as well. The game is simple and easy to pick up and learn for anybody.
As for the bad, well where do I begin??? You know how I mentioned the nice team selection? Well they are not authentic college or pro teams. What you get are teams named from the likes of Wolves and The Crushers. Also unlike other football games where each team has their strengths and weaknesses, this one has none. Each team is identical except for their uniforms. The only thought process in choosing a team is picking the name you like the best. Also while picking the plays there is a time clock which lets you pick with only 6 seconds. What kind of crud is that? What league allows only 6 seconds to pick a play? I know. A league that has no season, but a 4 game tournament. I need something to keep me coming back to play. As far as the actual gameplay goes, well it needs improvement. Expect blocked passes as well as passes that are way off the mark. Half the time you cant tell if you caught the ball or not. The players do the same motions during each play. It is near impossible to shrug off tacklers and the ball handler is likley to get caught every time as the computer gets super speed while you go as slow as you always have.
Worth it? Nah. The game is just too shallow to warrant a buy. This game needs new features to bump up the replay value seeing how once you beat this game you will probably never play it again. If you want to spend over $20 on a dated football game then be my guest. I'd rather spend $2 on TSB which plays much better than this. Also, what's up with every player being #ed 88?
