If you read my KOF 94 review then you knew that I was disappointed with the game. While 95 is not the greatest, not even close, it is a much better game with minor improvements that proved to screw up 94fs score. The game follows the same formula as every other KOF game. Basic Street Fighter style with special moves for each character. The same old SNK groove is back, which you hold three buttons down to raise your power bar.
There are plenty of good things packed into this game. The first thing youfll notice is that you are finally able to pick your own team. This was a major plus. Also there are over 20 characters in this title which is more than itfs predecessor. The character graphics are top notch as well as animation.. The control is pretty good, except specials, and the gameplay is the same tried and true play wefve seen throughout the entire series.
As for the bad......well while the graphics and animation for the characters are great, the backgrounds suck. They could have been easily done on a SNES system. The sounds sound a bit muffled and the voices are forgettable. The levels are only okay as is the case with the music. And although the cast is much bigger, most of the characters are not the greatest cast that has ever graced a fighter, just average.
Overall a much better effort than the original. More characters and team edit are a major plus,as well as the debut of Iori, but is it worth the price of admission? Depends. If you are a serious KOF nut and want to play every KOF title in existence then I may suggest looking for it on a cheaper system. I can give it a buy but only under $40, which would be a rare. If you are just a casual fighting fan then make no mistake about it, the game is pretty good, but the newer KOF games are much better and have more characters and better graphics. Also since they are on CD they are generally cheaper. Hey the choice is yours to make but in my opinion you will be sorely disappointed with this game if you pay too much for it. Onward to 96.
