Anyways, on with the review.
Gameplay-For those of you who are familiar with the anime, this game faithfully follows the anime OAV's and manga right down to places and characters. For those of you who are not, its one of the better RPG's out there that follows the typical storyline-heroes of past save the world, evil reawakens, new heroes save it again. Don't be fooled by my shallow description, as the game is much better. Anyways, its like your run-of-the-mill RPG in most aspects, with the only difference being the battle system. The battles take place in a 3/4 view (BOF series) and you move your characters (up to six) on a 3x3 grid. You can move off the board to flee or knock the enemy leader into the pit at their end to get double exp and money. Its creative and adds a little more to the game. Characters are of different classes-different weapons and armor, spells, etc. The only drawback is that its all in Japanese.
GFX and sound- The graphics in this game are good for its time, and it rivals that of some of the earlier SFC final fantasy games. The palettes are pleasing-a more realistic tone of color as opposed to brighter colors for final fantasy games. Each character is detailed somewhat, and some of the artwork in the anime has made it here intact. Music is standard fare for an RPG, though some tunes are repeated a lot. Strangely, this game doesn't have too many sounds, but that is no big deal for me.
Funfactor-Due to my limited knowledge of japanese, I wasn't able to understand too much in this game, but I understood enough to get the storyline pretty good. Some knowledge of the anime helps unless you are a fluent Japanese speaker. The storyline is just like the anime, and its pretty deep for a SFC RPG. The game is divided into scenarios that tell each character's story and so far I have played through 4 of them. Each one is progressively longer than the other which makes for a long, entertaining game. The only drawback is the japanese text. The game is overall fun to play, and boss battles are difficult, especially the fire dragon-one of the most difficult I have faced in a LONG while.
Overall-This is a great game for those who can understand it or for those who are familiar with the anime. Its long and it will keep you playing for a long while. Again, the only fault here is its in Jap. Avoid like the plauge if you can't understand, otherwise play it and enjoy the experience. Another option is to wait for the english translation on emu. A good RPG to be enjoyed.-Joel-
