Another fun racer

If you liked the SNES mario kart as much as me, then this game will give you the same fun and excitement as the first. Nintendo has succeeded in continuing the great mario kart tradition by making this game, which was the predecessor of all kart racer clones on any other system. This game is the real McCoy.

Gameplay-If you played the first version, this game is the exact same, albeit more characters, items, and different controls. New courses are present, and some old ones return once again. As with the first MKart, each racer has different stregnths and weaknesses. Wario also makes his first 64 appearance here. Items are back again to wreak havoc, and they add some unpredictability to a race, as a well placed shell or lightning bolt can cause a different outcome. Old items make thier return, this time in bunches(triple shells, quintuple bananas) and in zooped-up versions (gold mushroom, blue shell). The controls are simple and responsive and like most other 64 multiplayer games, anyone can pick this up and have fun with it.

GFX and sound-The graphics on the game closely resemble that of Mario 64 with smoother textures and polygons. Color palettes are nearly identical. Everything is pretty detailed, until you get up close, where things begin to get pixelated. Music is like the old MKart-cheesy, upbeat tunes that somehow fit the race at hand. The sound and voices are nicely done, and they are loud. Nintendo basically had this department in the hat when the game was released.

Funfactor-FUN, FUN, FUN!!! Like the first, this game is a riot to play with friends or even just one person. The single player is a bit drab, but it will hold the player for a little while. Multiplayer is truly the 64's best area, and I believe the developers had this in mind.

Replay-With single player mode, the value is kinda of low, as you might not want to play CPU's all the time. However, if you have a group of buddies who are constantly over, this game will become one of your best friends.

Overall-Another multiplayer masterpiece, and the Mario Kart tradition continues. I strongly recommend a buy if you have people to play with, otherwise its your decision.-Joel-
