It gets better every year:9.5

After playing NCAA 2005 for a while I was starting to get really jazzed about Madden. I wanted to see if EA could make enough improvements on this year's version to keep it fresh enough to still be the top dog in the pigskin category.

Well it still is the top game in sports and there are plenty of improvements and enhancements that make this worth purchasing even if you still hold last years version near and dear to your heart.

EA's motto this year was "fear the D!" and there are plenty of reasons why you should. The first is the new additions to the popular playmaker scheme. Now you can send a player on a blitz, in a zone to the flats, in a drop back zone or in a simple QB spy. You can even do it with the line. In addition to these pre-snap adjustments, players can also send safeties that play in deep zones to double up pesky recievers. You can also do selective bump and run so you don't have to bump the dominating WR's and risk getting burned deep. Players also have new line and LB audibles. You can make your line crash to the left, right, middle or loop to the outides to contain scrambling QB's. As for the LB's you can send them back to play a zone or make them all blitz. Another new feature is the defensive assignment feature which lets you lock on your opponent's best WR with your best corner. A very handy feature.

The offense is still the same fluid style of play we have all come to love over the years. Nothing really different here. Overall the game is very good, but the defensive enhancements make this game a worthy purchase. The online play is fantastic and make this a fantastic addition to any sports gamer's library.
