Well, Monster Rancher has a unique feature to utilize the "power" of those CD's to create a lovable fluffy monster for you to keep for your very own. Sound familiar? Well, it is not Pokemon, and I like this game better. Unlike having to catch wild monsters, these are bought in the local market or made from a CD. There is well over 300! monsters, and some can only be found by using a specific CD to make it.
See, the game prompts you to insert a CD into the PSX, and then it reads the data in the CD and uses it to make a different monster. There are some special limited types that can be found only on specific CD's. After you make a monster, you take it to the farm and raise its parameters by working it for money. When you are confident in your monster, send it to the tournament for competition. Win, and you get tons of money and raised rank. The top rank is "S" class, and getting it is HARD. There is also some special invitationals for special items like dragons and ghosts.
The tournament is what makes this game more fun than Pokemon. All monsters have a unique appearance and type. When you compete, you fight against the computer in a ring. You get to control your monster's movements and attacks while the AI does the computer's. I like the animations, and the battle system is easy and smooth. Raising your monster on the farm can get a little tedious, but overall I found it fun.
Another plus is being able to pit a monster saved on your memory card against another person's monster. A great game, it is like a cooler Giga pet mixed in with Pokemon with a little bit of fighting. Suezos rule! ^_^ -Joel-\ score: 8.5
