After having a couple of weeks to play NCAA and look at the reaction it has had from most gamers I must say I am rather surprised at a few things. First of all I am surprised at a lot of the negative reactions this game has recieved. The game has gotten a pretty bad wrap so far. However there have been PLENTY of new features added from just last year that make this game a very worthy purchase for any football nut.
So what new things have been added in this game? Well first of all there are many new division 1-aa teams to choose from. Although they still have the same generic fight songs, they have their authentic stadium. Nothing major but a nice little addition for the people at the smaller lesser known colleges. Also new is the create a sign option that actually lets you make any sign you want to display after certain events in a game, such as blowouts and touchdowns.
Now I know you want to know the actual in game changes. Well for one, the new agile running feature is here. For people controlling agile runners in the game, this new addition allows them to cut upfield much quicker and easier. The animation looks very lifelike and can be the small difference between catching a pass over the middle and cutting upfield for a big gain, and just getting smashed by a safety. Also new is the very tough defense. The defense hits you harder and reacts quicker. The jetpacking technique from Madden is present here, but much harder to do with the new big hit button. By pushing white on the controller you defender will lay the wood on a RB, QB or whoever gets in your path. The corners now tips more balls, due to their revamped jumping ability, and the D line gets a lot of penetration at times.
I guess a new big thing is the home field advantage which allows you to mash the white button to pump your crowd up and rattle the other team. Unheard hot routes and false starts happen if the place is tough to play at, the game actually ranks the top 25 toughest places to play at. Anyway the camera shakes, like in real life, and the controller vibrates, creating a lifelike atmosphere. If you don't like the sound of it then ou can turn it off. Also new is the deeper dynasty mode which also makes you deal with off field problems with your players.
As for the bad, well the WR's drop a lot of passes. The most passes i have completed was %50 . The only thing I can guess is that the composure is low or if they are rattled. So if you hate dropped passes, well you may get pissed. Also the graphics need a serious overhaul. Also the commentary, although quite good, gets repitive, especially to veterans who have played it over the past few years.
Overall the entire game is fantastic. All of the new additions, especially online play for the XBOX, really spruce up the game. With the season coming up this is no doubt a must buy. All of the excitement of big time college football in one tiny disc. What more could you want?
