NCAA 2006 can be described as a little disapointing. The game is still the best college football title out there, even with competition it would be hard to argue against that, but EA seemed complacent with last year's edition and decided to add a few tweaks rather than some innovative gameplay aspects. New this year: Heisman race mode where you take your high school recruit and mold him into a Heisman candidate. There are new spring drills to practice your football skills in, and there are new division 2 teams. The button mapping has changed a little and there is a new truck stick thatr will let you bowl over or juke a cb out of thier pants in the open field( don't work all the time tho) and the qb scrambling has changed. Basically no A reciever so you can sramble as soon as you snap the ball. No need to tggle icons.
All of that seems nifty, and it is, but quite frankly when you look at the overall picture, you are basically playing last years game. They did overhaul the speed of the game and the animations as well. The game moves very fast now and this makes for some great gameplay. Kudos for that. However there are still the same problems that plaugued last year's title. Too many dropped passes, and the fact that it is still way to easy to throw deep. 10 play drives are almost non existant as 4 and 5 yards passes are nearly impossible to complete.
In addition the defensive backs are dumb. Even if you take control of them they always get behind the WR and let him catch the ball. Basically you got to hope that he jars the bvall loose. The O-line tends to not block blitzers at all. All of this can make for some frustrating experiences.
Even so, this game has a lot to offer. If you liked last year's game, you will love this one. If you did not, then stay far away. There are still some kinks to be worked out. One last thing. This game has the best presentation for any sport game period. However get some new entrances and dialogue for the broadcasters. 3 years of essentially the same stuff? Come on now.
