The above image is misleading. Though it may look like a little kids game, it is far from it. The game is Tenchi Muyo!, a strategy RPG based on the anime series of the same name. Unless you know japanese, this game can be found on emu in 100% English. Anyways, on to the game itself.
Gameplay-This game is very easy to learn and fun at the same time. Controls are a cinch and there is only a few menus to learn. Perhaps the only thing to learn is what each characters' specials do, but that doesn't take long either. For those of you who are series fans, you should already know for the story. For those who don't, here it is. You play the role of Tenchi, the main character of the series, and it is your job to save a kidnapped girl with the help of 11 other characters, most of which are female or other. Battles are fought with 4 people per map, and the interface is simple-move, attack, wait, etc. Thumbs up for simplicity. The story is pretty well developed for a short game, and the dialogue is varied and retains some of the humor from the series. My only complaint here is the shortness of the game, but it is no big deal.
GFX and sound-Here is another good area for this game. Artwork is straight out of the series, and characters are all reduced in size (chibified). Despite this, they all retain all their resembalance to thiere tv counterparts and are drawn and animated in great detail. If you are a newbie to the series, the entire game has a distinctly japanese flavor to everything. Music is a quiet set of japanese themed music. It fits the game perfectly, especially if you are playing it in japanese. Voices are present, and they are all clear and crisp, especially for the SNES generation of games. This is by far the best area of the game if there is one.
Funfactor:This game is fun to play. If you have watched even a small part of the series, then you know what it is all about. The dialogue had me snickering to myself a good portion of the time, and battles are not too drawn out. The dialogue even changes when you visit the same place twice. If you get a kick watching the series like me, then you will get one also from this game. Great balance here.
Replay-This is the only chink in this game's armor. The shortness is the only flaw. There is two endings, so there is some replay value here. If you liked it the first time through, then you will like it the second time through. I know I will.
Overall-Whether you like the series or have never seen it at all, this game is a respectable strategy RPG in its own right. If you have watched the anime, then the game will be more appealing; if you haven't, then this game is a good way to be introduced to the series. Play this game. You will like it. -Joel-
Score:6.5 (because of its shortness)
