Approximately 60 people including myself went to Dr. Hatten's office, filled out paperwork and underwent a dental exam, xrays and a brief interview with Molla from CBS 7.
On Monday morning I received a call from Molla at CBS 7 informing me that I had been chosen as one of the 4 finalists.
CBS7 posted my picture along with 3 other ladies and the public could go online and vote for the person they wanted to receive the makeover.
The votes were to be tallied and a winner anounced
on Friday, June 27, 2003 on the 6 o'clock news.
Somehow I made it through the week waiting for a winner to be announced. On Friday morning my phone rang and to my great surprise the caller id showed the call to be from CBS 7!!! Molla at CBS7 told me that I had won the contest and I needed to come to the tv station and do an interview at 11:30 that morning so they could announce the winner and show my interview on the evening news cast.
I was interviewed by Vanessa Welch on the 5pm broadcast. After the interview Molla and Jennifer informed me that they had another surprise for me.
Not only was I the winner of a Dental Makeover which could total between $15,000 and $20,000 I would also receive a set of skin care products to use during my makeover and Diane (a professional makeup artist at PS Images in Midland) would do my makeup for the final broadcast.
The first official visit to Dr. Hatten the CBS7 camera began filming my progress usually with an interview with Dr. Hatten and myself.
One day, the interview came after I was given medication to deaden my mouth!!!
Needless to say my speech was a little impaired during that interview.
Impressions were made, my teeth were cleaned
with my progress being reported on the evening news.

Then it's off to the TV station for makeup by Diane from PS Images
After a special day of pampering, new hair style, makeup, new dress and shoes Cinderella (oops!) Merlene and Dr. Hatten had the final interview on the 5 pm newscast.

I felt like I was in a beauty pagent!
This advertisement ran in the newspaper after the final unveiling
This has been one of the most exciting, rewarding and special times of my life! To know that I will never again hide behind my hair or not smile at someone because I am embarrassed of the way I look. I have been blessed and I thank everyone for voting for me!
MOST OF ALL THANK YOU DR. & MRS. HATTEN
and your wonderful staff! You ladies were as excited as I was with every new change! Thank you for making me feel special!
