Respect

According to one scout's definition of respect, it is when your father asks you to set the table and you only get silverware for yourself - total lack of respect.

Respect is an attitude that is shown or acted upon towards others, the environment, animals, property, and yourself.  Respect is something that is earned or given by someone to you.  You earn respect for yourself from others by showing respect to them and showing respect to everything around you. Respect towards others is shown by listening to them when they are speaking, not putting them down, giving their thoughts careful consideration before disagreeing with them, by not invading their private space, and not taking what is not yours from them.  Respect for the environment is shown by not throwing trash into it, by picking up other's trash, by using the resources wisely, and not damaging it by picking plants or killing living things. Respect to animals is shown by not making loud noises that might startle them, by not depleting or disrupting their food and habitat sources, and by not chasing them.  Respect for property is shown by using items entrusted to your use carefully and returning them in the same or better condition, and not taking or using what is not yours.  Keeping yourself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight shows respect for yourself.  This means using your strengths to your best advantage and improving upon your weaknesses.  Respect for yourself entails eating a healthy diet, getting exercise, learning everything you can no matter what the source, and keeping your actions and language beyond question.

Respect is defined in Webster's Dictionary as  (noun) 1 : a relation to or concern with something 2 : an act of giving particular attention  3a : high or special regard b : the quality or state of being esteemed (verb) 1a : to consider worthy of high regard b : to refrain from interfering with 2 : to have reference to.
