True Norwegian Black Metal

A Blaze in the Northern Sky - 1992

NO RATING

Hmm… how can you review a classic, how can you rate it? I could not rate this album, because it’s just that… a classic! This was one of the first true black metal albums, along with Mayhem, and a few others. This album illustrates exactly what black metal was meant to be in the first place before it went “gothic.” This album is ugly, horribly produced, noisy, and at times chaotic, and it is praised for just that! It is ugly, noisy, and chaotic because it is pure evil, and it is horribly produced (some say on purpose), because it so anti-commercial, and well… it’s just evil! If you are new to black metal or have been into black metal for awhile you need this album! This is what Norwegian Black Metal has always been measured up to! My favorite song on this six track CD, is “In the Shadow of the Horns.” I would not recommend this album to someone who is not a fan of Black Metal, for the same reasons I would recommend it to fan of black metal, it is ugly, noisy, garage-band-quality, and is purely evil!
