The Mini Lop. one of the most popular breeds recognized by the ARBA, has been in existence since 1972. Orignating in Germany, they were called "Kein Widder". This was a cross breeding using German Lop and the little chinchilla rabbit. Broken colors appeared after their import to America by crossing a Standard Chinchilla with a Broken French Lop.

Bob Herschbach first exhibited a pair at the 1974 ARBA Convention in Ventura, California. There was not a lot of interest in the breed but soon after that convention, the name was changed to "Mini Lop".

Through the dedication efforts of a few breeders, the Mini Lop was finally accepted as a breed at the 1980 National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Mini Lop Rabbit Club of America was chartered later that year.

The Mini Lop Rabbit Club of America has an ever growing club membership and is one of the largest specialty clubs chartered with the American Rabbit Breeders Association.
