After the two of them both dropped out of school, Marshall got a job at a restaurant called Gilbert's Lodge. At the time, he was an aspiring rapper and worked hard to make it big. On December 25, 1995, Kim gave birth to her and Marshall's first child, Hailie Jade Scott. Marshall's first album, Infinite, was released a year later and the love song "Searchin," which was written for Kim, was featured on the 10 track EP. The album flopped and Kim and Marshall were in serious financial trouble.
After living with Marshall's emotionally unstable mother Debbie for a few years, Kim and Marshall moved out on their own. Their new house was in a bad neighbourhood and one night while Kim was doing the dishes, she was almost killed by a stray bullet which came through their kitchen window. "The neighborhoods we lived in fucking sucked," Kim told Rolling Stone in 1999. "I went through four TVs and five VCRs in two years." Financial trouble eventually put a strain on Kim and Marshall's relationship and they broke up in 1997 because Kim wanted him to give up his dream.
The break-up between them was not easy. Kim was living with her mom and her stepdad and refused to let Marshall see Hailie. As a result, Marshall wrote the song "97 Bonnie & Clyde" which originally appeared on "The Slim Shady EP" under the title "Just the Two of Us." In 1998, Marshall wrote another song about Kim and made her the title character. At the time she was working as a masseusse and it didn't seem like they would get back together but about a year later, they reunited.
Kim and Marshall got married on June 14, 1999 at a church in St. Joseph. When asked about Kim, Marshall responded, "Me and Kim, we been through our dramas and shit, but I'd be bald-faced lying if I said I don't love her or I'm with her because of my daughter. I'm with her 'cause I wanna be with her. I love that girl, man. I really do."
In April of 2000, Kimberley's driving license was revoked after she received a second drunken driving conviction. Three months later Kimberley wound up in legal trouble again. On June 4th, 2000, Marshall and Kimberley were arrested at a bar called the Hot Rocks Cafe. Apparently, Marshall had come to the bar to see Kim and found her in the arms of another man. He pulled out a gun and hit John Guerra, the man she was seen with. The police arrived and Kim's behavior led to her being arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Marshall filed for a divorce on June 22 and Kimberley attempted suicide on July 7. As a result of her suicide attempt, Kim and Marshall's sentence hearings were delayed. On August 4th, Kimberley was in trouble again after getting in a fight with Dawn in a limo. Kim apparently pushed Dawn out of the limo but the the news failed to make headlines and the incident was never spoken of again.
News of Marshall & Kim's divorce wasn't released to the public until August 16 and she then sued him for $10 million and sole custody of Hailie. Marshall settled and retained joint legal custody of their daughter. During all of this drama, Marshall and Kimberley moved houses and were still living together.
In October, Kim plead guilty to the disorderly conduct charge. Judge Dawnn Gruenburg sentenced Kim to 11 months' probation, and assessed her a $50 fine. Kim was ordered to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous orientation meeting tonight. Kim told the judge she attends Alcoholics Anonymous twice a week and is taking Anabuse, a drug that causes illness when combined with alcohol. Marshall agreed to pay $15,000 for Kimberley's legal fees.
The couple decided to reconcile for the sake of their daughter in December. At that time they'd already moved into their new home with Hailie. Dawn was also living with them as well as her eight-year-old daughter Amy. There were even rumours that Kim and Marshall were trying for another baby but the reconciliation was short lived; Kim filed for a divorce on March 1st. Kim and Marshall have joint custody of Hailie and at first the divorce was amicable.
Recently, things got ugly when the issue of child support came up. Kim wanted almost $3,000 a week from Marshall and claimed even that amount wasn't substantial. Marshall disagreed and said it was too much. The couple has hired a mediator to work out their financial issues.
In June, Kim made headlines again after her truck was stolen and involved in a hit and run accident. Later that month, Kim was charged with cocaine posession. Her and her friend were jet skiing when they encountered difficulties with their watercraft. Somebody witnessed the accident and phoned the police. The two women were found and Kim was arrested for not paying a fine from a previous charge. A bag of cocaine was found in the backseat of the police car that Kim was driving in. She will most likely receive probation for the incident. ><
