SURVIVOR!!!

Let me start by saying "I'M A SURVIVOR!!!!!!!!!!"  I was diagnosed, at age 31, on 06/19/2000 with ES of the left femur after being misdiagnosed for almost 1 1/2 years.  They thought I pulled my groin muscle after jumping on a trampolene in April of 1999.  Then, they thought it was a stress fracture.  After a bone biopsy, the truth comes out. I had a partial hip replacement on 11/09/2000.  After 8 rounds of chemo and 25? rounds of radiation, I'm back in the saddle, literally!  I had to give up softball, and volleyball, but they couldn't keep me off of my horse! 7 months after surgery, and 4 months after my last round of chemo, I went into a horseshow and placed 1st in some of my classes!  My doctors weren't too happy, but I was! I met my, now, husband in February of 2000.  He proposed to me the night before my first round of chemo and we were married on August 4th 2001.  He stuck by me through this whole thing!  He is the best thing that has ever happened to me!  We have a dog, Mercedes, 3 cats, Banjo, Boots, and Taz, and my horse Rae Anne!  We are in the process of trying to have children, but that darn radiation isn't being very nice to my ovary!  I had one taken out before chemo started, just in case, and it looks like we might need to use it.
Thank you for doing this for everyone!  It sure is nice to see pictures of all the people I had been chatting with and about for so long!  I haven't been on the list for almost a year now.  ( I signed off the day after Josh died.)  But I still think of everyone all the time.  Especially in my prayers at night!  Feel free to e-mail me at Rapunzle2001@aol.com. The best advice I can offer to those still going through this~ Decorate your hospital rooms!  My mom decorated every hospital stay.  We had an Hawaiian theme, Mexico, Birthday, Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day.  The doctors and nurses just loved it, and looked forward to us coming in.  You have to be there for 3-5 days, you might as well enjoy what you're looking at.
Lots of love to everyone!
Erica and Dano!

Fabian

Fabian was diagnosed with Ewings sarcoma in August of 2003. He is currently undergoing Chemo at Sloan Kettering in NY. This is a picture taken a few months before the diagnoses, with me, his girlfriend. We were having one last "fun day" before I started law school. The tumor and the cancer is table but not shrinking, but we all still have hope that got will answer our prayers and grant us a miracle. I am now looking into alternative treatments in case the treatment continues to not produce results and deteriorate his body further. He has lost 50 pounds since that picture and his family and mine are looking for any answers or tips to aid in his fight. Please email me with any ideas.

Gary (Our Angel on Earth)

Gary had a niece who died of Ewings Sarcoma. Gary states, "My work with children with Ewings is not by choice but by direction."

Hello All:

My name is Gary Suboter of TAKE MY HAND a project of the Cure Our Children Foundation; a non profit, 501 C-3 organization.   www.cureourchildren.org   We work with Barry Sugarman as a support for parents and children in treatment for Ewings Sarcoma cancer.  We assist in the areas of patient and parent advocacy in family life issues.  In most cases, just doing whatever needs to be done to keep the family together while battling this disease; household budgeting, bills, negotiating payments, providing some help with payments, finding community resources in repairing cars, groceries, clothing, and in general, whatever needs to be done to keep the family focused on the child or adult with cancer and away from the financial demands of day to day living.

We work as volunteers and everyone has a variety of talents and contacts.  I'm a husband, father and grandfather and own a medium sized business in El Paso, Texas. I'm on the advisory board of PROJECT JOY & HOPE for TEXAS, a board member of HOSPICE OF EL PASO, Director of TAKE MY HAND, and a trained hospice volunteer in my hometown. I love children and feel that they and their families should have every chance at happiness, no matter how brief.

Hope

SURVIVOR!!!

Below are emails from Hope:

The tumors in my legs and neck are completely gone.  The tumor in my arm (which is the origination of the story) is shrunk by leaps and bounds, so surgery is a resounding - GO!  And no for the agony, the cancer has spread to my lungs (well, one lung).  So now we have a new story to begin (I guess we will call this volume 12.857,458,928).

More good news, I guess.  The ashes of my twin girls (passed Sept. 17, 2001) arrived in their beautiful urn last week.  I have a bit of relief knowing they are finally home where

I am finally back in the comfort of my home after surgery.  I apologize ahead of time if the typing is not quite up to par.  I only have one good hand and it's the left one (I'm right-handed).

The surgery (Nov. 20, 2001) went fairly well, there was a lot more damage in the arm where the tumor had been before it was shrunk by radiation and chemo.  That doubled the expected surgery time, as the meticulous task of repairing 16 nerves and 6 tendons as well as 2 muscles was a delicate and tedious task.  The surgeons and oncologists are very pleased with the outcome.  I unfortunately have an infection, so chemo has been postponed another week.  We are praying that we will begin next Monday.  The pain meds are very good, and I have a lot of control, so I am in good spirits, and am anxious to finish this phase, so I can begin to address the newest problem (mets to lungs)"

Hope Ybarra, Ph.D.
