Pinnacle Pugs

Information

Pinnacle pugs has been in existence since 1991 when I obtained my first pug, Lauraland Merrie Melodie. Melodie was totally different from the shelties I had been used to having. She was absolutely spastic with energy, and she was so small as a puppy, we all had to learn to shuffle our feet instead of walking! We soon learned of pug fits, where without warning Melodie would tuck her tail and speed through the house as if she were running for her life, all the while her tongue was hanging out and she had this gleam in her eye. We also were initiated to pug snorts. Melodie is an expert at this. She will seemingly be taking a deep breath after quietly taking to some petting, and then POW! -- she lets off a big 'ole sneeze right into our face, covering all, including glasses, with pug snuzzle. Then it's to the water bowl, and as my children fondly hollar, "Look out! She got a drink!" Everyone scatters to get away from Melodie until her chin stops dripping.

Melodie proceeded to become #6 pug in obedience according to PDCA's ratings in 1995. She was showcased at the National Specialty in June 1996. Since then, Melodie was trained as a certified therapy dog and worked at Hendrick Center for Rehabilitation and Hendrick Medical Center. She was used as a modality for the physical, occupational, and speech therapists. She also visited patients on the different floors at the hospital and went to meet the public at events and to schools for educational purposes. Melodie is now retired and queen pug at home.

In August 1995, Melodie presented me with her first and only litter of two male puppies. This was my first, and so far only, pug litter. In this litter was CH. Lauraland Jolly Roger. Jolly is special because he is my first homebred champion and I handled him to finish his championship. He finished with 3 majors, including a 5 point major at the San Antonio Pug Club's Specialty in 1997. He took Best of Winners and I was estatic! Now Jolly is retired and the old snugglepugmale of the house.

In September 1997, Jolly produced his first litter, with Cutie, owned by Bettie Lutzko of Lauraland Kennels.  In this litter was Herbie - CH Lauraland The Love Bug.  Herbie finished his A.K.C. Championship at 11 months of age, and his Intermational Championship at 14 months.  He is a very cute, sweet boy.

Then in December, Jolly produced his second litter, with Pickles, also owned by Bettie.  In that litter was Java - Lauraland Java Time - owned by Bettie, and Ebony - Lauraland Mocha Java Girl - owned by us.  These puppies are black and as cute as a bug's ear.

This is Ebony in her favorite bean bag chair!

Jolly had his third litter with Misty, owned by Bettie.   The puppies were born on February 16th, 1999. There were 4 fawn boys. Tony -Lauraland Tony the Tiger and Percy - Lauraland Percival Pugg were kept in that litter. Percy is now owned by a Junior handler, Kyle Perkins, who recently made his debut at the Dallas-Fort Worth Toy Dog Club Show in December 2001. Kyle took First Place and placed in Open Pug Dogs at the show.More Pictures to come!!
