If You Must Go

When I heard that you were leaving my heart broke right in two.
Is there something I can do or I can say?
But if leaving makes you happy, all your dreams are up to you.
And it would be unkind of me if I begged you to stay.

If you must go
give me just a while
to accept that you are leaving;
let me memorize your smile.
If you must go;
if it's time to turn the page,
know our lives will change forever
when the "Jazz Man" leaves the stage.

The way your voice lit up a room, the funny things you said.
Your stories made us laugh until we cried.
The memories that you leave behind no matter where you're led,
and though you're stepping down we'll keep these thoughts of you inside.

If you must go
don't make me say goodbye.
We won't forget your mellow songs
or the sparkle in your eye.
If you must go
you must know we love you still.
And the lights may dim up on the stage...
But your memory never will.
