I Would

Fighting hot, bitter tears, I swallow my pride.
Searching for words so you'd know.
It's all futile I fear, for something has died
crashing hard on the rocks below.

In vain I take piece after piece and I try
to somehow make sense of it all; asking, "Why?"
But it's getting harder to whisper goodbye.
So I'll go...
But I want you to know...

If I had it to do all over again...I would.
If I had it to do all over again; Oh, if only I could.
I'd give you the stars.
I'd sing you the songs.
And pray all the while
that nothing went wrong.
If I had it to do all over again...
I would.

An angel in chains, standing watch by the gate.
But, the battle was never enough.
Trying to save what remains, I ponder the fate
of the nothing that started as love.

A wandering child by the banks of a stream.
The silence is raised to a deafening scream.
But, I keep refusing to wake from this dream
I'm alone.
I should have known...

But, if I had it to do all over again, I would.
If I had it to do all over again, I'd do all that I could.
I'd leap from the bridge
to the water below.
Hold on to your hand
without letting go.
If I had it to do all over again...
I would.
