Lufkin, Texas

The Lufkin Venue had an opening act called Pizzazz. I was thoroughly prepared to be bored, but these guys were so cute! I believe they ranged in age from 15/16 to 19. Not sure on that, but they apparently are a local barbershop group. Not really my "style", of course, but they did a nice job and kept us interested with humor.

Most of the audience appeared to be in their "golden years" so we were interested to see how Rockapella would be received here. I believed they enjoyed them, but it was hard to tell from where we were sitting. We didn't see much movement from them. *G* We were in Row P, orchestra, which was farther back than we're used to, but oh well...We're here to see 'Pella! *G*

"Tonight"

Scott of course does the introductions.

"Moments of You": Cool dancing! Whoo Hoo!

Scott: "This is our first time in Lufkin. Thanks for having us. Sorry about that football score thing." Kev: "But we'll be in Oklahoma tomorrow, so it doesn't matter." Scott: "But we'd like to thank you for our new quarterback." (Apparently someone from Texas is now playing for Florida? I dunno.) Scott: "I guess the Rockapella demographic doesn't really cross the football demographic that often." Then he asked who'd seen Rockapella before. Not many. Then he asked who HADN'T seen them before. TONS. *G* So he explained how they made the music, etc.

"Off My Mind": George was really trying to flirt with this older lady but I don't think she was having ANY of it. *G*

"Dancin' In The Street": Again, Brendaly was the ONLY one yelling during "Chicago". *G*

"Stand By Me"

"Use Me": Kev got extemely tired this time and Scott brought out water afterward. *G*

Kev told us that his nephew graduated in this area. Then he talked about how friendly and warm everyone was: "The hospitality is unmatched. So thank you for having us." He mentioned that four of them were from Florida and that for the first time ever, three hurricanes came through the same area. Then he talked about the beautiful beaches and birds (John again), and the surf (Jeff). Kev: "So you can walk along the beach and enjoy the scenery...Oh, hello...See girls in bikinis. Oh and look...men...in speedos." He asked if anyone here wore a speedo. "Oh you do? And what is your name, sir?" (The guy waved him off) Kev: "Oh, yeah. I wear a speedo, but I won't tell you my name. But I think you should only wear a speedo if you're an olympic swimmer." Scott: "For speed's sake." Then another guy said he wore a speedo. His name was Chris. Kev asked him what color it was. I believe he first said, "pink", then changed to "purple". *G*

"Under The Boardwalk": Oh look! A VERY hot-looking shark! *G*

As Da Boyz take their seats on the stools provided, Jeff discovers that his is shorter: *singing* "One of these stools is not like the other."

Scott mentioned that before Kev joined Rockapella he was in many Broadway shows. "But now he's slumming with us, so we thank him for that." Scott asks Kev to sing some Broadway tune. Kev said that Andrew Lloyd Weber got him through many years. Scott: "Of high school?" Then Scott sang some line from some show and teased Kev with a line from Cats: "Meow." Kev: "Maybe I could do Annie." Scott: "We were in College Station a few months ago. Kev: "That's A&M." Scott: "And Sam Houston?" Basically they were commenting on all the colleges and the letters and trying not to mix them up, "SMU, A&M, SFA, UT", and not saying the wrong name in the wrong area. *G* Scott: "Which one is in Nagagdoches?" (Um, it's Nacogdoches, Scott. *G*)He commented on how strange the name of that town is: "What kind of word is that? It's spelled with a "g", but you say Nacodoches...what's up with that?"

Scott: "This was a request from someone in Texas." (It was ME! *G*) "Jenny Come Away"

"Lazy River"

"Rock The Boat": Again, Scott has to deal with non-rhythmic Texans. *G*

Intermission. There were empty seats up front so we made it to the third row. *G*

"Small World"

"Rockapella's Greatest Hit"

"Long Cool Woman"

"My Girl": A word of warning. Being in the middle of the seats does NOT keep John from picking you. He made the newest "Beg Girl", Rachel, walk OVER people. Go John! I love him!

Kev introduced everyone and just sort of said, "that's George", and kept going. But George wasn't having ANY of that. He tapped Kev on the shoulder. Kev: "What's the matter?" George *very low* (to Rachel): "How are you?". Kev: "Now how can I follow that?" Kev tries to speak low, but it doesn't work. Then he sounds as if he's been snorting helium: "Hi. How are you?" Rachel works in a Toyota dealership. Kev asked if he could give her a good deal on a car. Kev asked if she knew his nephew: "Brad Shepard?" She didn't. Kev: "He was very popular." *G* Kev: "Oh Rachel. How I need a new Toyota..." Jeff: "beep beep!" Kev: "That's it."

"Ain't Too Proud To Beg": Now that they've perfected this song, I'm enjoying it way more than Pretty Woman. *G*

"People Change": I really didn't expect this. But I must say it was the most beautiful I've EVER heard it done live. Nice job guys! (Side note: Apparenly Scott A. (babyboy) requested it).

George is up next: "I used to sing high like those girls. It's hard at the bottom." *G* He went into his little "Bass is cooler" speech. *G* He mentioned "16 Tons" but said he didn't sing it because Barry Carl made it a legend. He did a few bars though. Then he sang a few bars in falsetto. Sounded VERY uncool. George: "Even I'M not afraid of that!" *G*

"Papa Was a Rolling Stone"

"Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego" Scott: "Everyday for 5 years..." During Jeff's solo, I was just about to tell Krik that it sounded like Jeff was saying "Nacogdoches" during it and right then Jeff stops his solo and goes, "You know Nacogdoches is a very rhythmic word." Then incorporated it in the rest of the solo: "Nacogdoches..." Oh so COOL!

Encores:

"Up On The Roof/Wonderful World": During this (off mic, of course), when the guys were kinda swaying back and forth, you could hear the floor squeaking. *G* Scott decided to make it worse and made it squeak harder. Silly! But they tried to keep a straight face, unsuccessfully, of course. *G*

"Zombie Jamboree": The song is faster now with a quick intro by John. I DO like the beat though. Kev is still hurting his "femur bone" and his "tibia bone". And no, he's not a doctor, but he DID stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. *G* I love him too!

They left the stage and some of the older folks thought the show was over. So they got up to leave. This one lady in front took an especially long time getting out of her seat. About the time she was up and found her cane, they came back out. Scott walked over to her as if to beg her to stay. She was waving at him. Coleen: "She's probably saying, 'I just got up! Don't make me sit down again!" *G*

"Shambala"

Scott said something about going to Alva, Oklahoma the next day and of course the four of us yelled. Then he meant to say we had a great summer, but said, "We had a great...fall" and Kev appeared to trip. hehehe...Yeah, like we haven't heard THAT joke before, Kev. *G*

"Keep Smilin'": During the VP break they did a play on Nacogdoches, which actually sounded quite good. Then Scott starts doing this strange bowlegged, pelvic thrust-type walk: "In Texas...they call this walking." Does he WANT someone to hurt him? *G* I hope they come back soon!
