Sacrifice

I'd walk through the dark for a flicker of light,
for a candle that shows you the way.
I'd trade all my wrongs to make one thing right,
if my doing so meant you could stay.

I'd swim from the lifeboat and cling to your hand
as the darkness gives way to the dawn.
And, I'd gladly fall down on my sword in the sand
if my sacrifice meant you'd live on.

I'd bargain with angels who stand at the door;
tears bathing my soul with goodbye.
Trade all my tomorrows for one moment more,
and follow without asking why.

I'd pray to the Good Lord for my soul to take;
a promise that my love is true.
Give up all I know in this world just to make
the journey to Heaven with you.
