Fill Our Minds with Peace
By Norman Vincent Peale

Remember when you were a child and the light was turned out at night?
You knew your mother was nearby and perhaps she even told you the angels were watching over you.
That’s how God watches over you all your life. Simply trust him.
You can start with this prayer:

Our heavenly Father, we know you are here with us. Help us now to feel your presence. Take away any strain or stress that our hectic lives bring to us. May your peace, which passes all understanding, fill our minds, our hearts, and our physical bodies. We have a great desire to draw near to you, to feel your sustaining arm around us, to know that you love us, and that we are never alone.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord Amen.

An elderly lady went to a tombstone cutter to order a stone for her husband’s grave. After explaining that all she wanted was a small one with no frills, she told him to put the words, “To my husband,” in a suitable place.
When the stone was delivered, she saw, to her horror, this inscription:

“To My Husband in a Suitable Place.”

Prayer is simply having a conversation with God.
Prayer is not only for use at bedtime but it is for anytime of the day.

Prayer is a relationship, not a formal religious activity. When you have a conversation with another person, you not only speak, you also listen.
Over the years, however many of us have been conditioned to think that prayer is a one way communication. But think of your interaction with God as two way communication. If you pray, you already understand how God speaks to your spirit in the silence of your prayers. You also know this happens only when you stop long enough to listen.
The psalmist said, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10 NIV).
God wants you to be calm in the middle of a storm. He does not want you to be troubled or to tremble in the face of uncertainty. He wants to comfort you. That’s why he promised he would prevail against all that troubles or threatens you. You would be wise to place the storms of your life in God’s hands and let him take over. He can do a better job directing our lives then we can. Genuine prayer does not lead to an encounter with God; the act of prayer is the encounter.
As you begin to pray, consider these
suggestions:

Pray constantly.

Anytime, anyplace, pray about anything. Prayer is a personal dialogue with God.

Pray with passion.

Realize that God loves you more then you can ever imagine or know. So love him back with your words and your energy of praise to him.

Pray for provision.

God has said we are His most important creation. He tells us not to worry, for he will provide for us.

Pray for protection.

There are great forces in our world that threaten us every day. Everything from addictions to other temptations, have the other universal power of Satan behind them. God will build a wall of protection from these evils around you if you will only ask him.

Pray for people.

You know people who need the power of the Almighty God in their lives. They may be hurting, sick, or just struggling to make it through another day. Bring these friends and associates to God in prayer.

Pray patiently.

The goal of prayer is to transport your joys and sorrows to God’s level, not to bring God to your level. If you do not sense clear instruction from God in your prayer time, be patient and wait for him. His timing is always right and it is always the best.

Pray with God.

Pray to God as if he is standing or sitting beside you.
Because he is beside you, and so is Jesus.

Pray with conviction.

Pray knowing it will be heard and that God’s will is done regardless of your wants.

Pray with power and thanks.

Always show your faith in God’s will by thanking him by the power of Jesus’ name for doing what you have asked of God if it is his will.
And do not pray repeatedly for the same thing that shows your lack of faith.
