1960-77
Ford compacts: this includes the Falcon, Maverick, Comet, Ranchero
(to 1967) and Granada/Monarch, and most of the suspension components interchange
with the 1965-73 Mustang. Note: Falcons are made in Australia (the early
bodystyle) up to 1971, when Ford Australia changed the body for 1972 and
later years. The Maverick is also produced in Brasil, from 1973-79, and
share the same body of 1970-72 vintage. A Maverick wagon was produced in
Brasil. Also, some dorky-lookin Mustangs from 1969-73 are good candidates.
1974-78 Mustang II: these
ponies are victims of Lee Iacocca himself (remember the bad joke "the right
car at the right time"), since these 'Stangs are rebodied Pintos.
A V8 is rare, and only common with 1975-78 models. These Mustangs
don't get "NO RESPECT" like their muscle-era cousins or the more popular
FOX-bodied Mustang.
1962-71 Ford mid-size: includes Fairlane/Torino, and 1968-71 Comets/Montegos/Meteors.
1968-71 Rancheros are good alternatives for an El Camino rival.
Guess which
TV series this car came from?
1972-79 Ford mid-size (remember Starsky and Hutch?): worthless,
but serve as low dollar iron, like the 1973-77 GM A-bodies.
1978-present FOX-bodies: includes 1978-83 Fairmonts, Zephyrs, 1981-83
Granadas, Monarchs, 1980-88 Thunderbirds, Cougars, and the 1979-present
Mustang. Some Fairmonts will have the 55A police package, with a 120 mph
speedometer, and parts are still available from Ford Motorsport.
