Clomipramine ( Anafranil
)
Clomipramine ( Anafranil ) a antidepressants
from the heterocyclic antidepressants
family of drugs. This drug is used mainly in the treatment of OCD
( obsessive-compulsive disorder ) but is also used to relief symptoms
of arm burning, endogenous depression, hair pulling syndromes,
nail biting, panic attacks, phobias, or PMS.
It is used in the treatment of narcolepsy and to relieve the pain of
arthritis, cancer, diabetic disease, herpes lesions,
migraines, tension headaches, or tic douloureux.
It may also help decrease the repetitive symptoms in autistic persons.
CLASS: Tertiary Tricyclic.
Generic name: Clomipramine Hydrochloride..
Type: Antidepressant / Antiobsessional.
Strengths:
Capsules:
25 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg.
Dosages: Actual dosage must be determined
by the physician.
Oral:
Start: 25mg in evening.
Increases: 25mg daily in intervals of 3 or 4 days until 100mg
daily.
Maintenance: 50mg to 150mg in 24 hours.
Maximum: 250mg in 24 hours.
Normal dosage:
If under 10 years of age, DO
NOT USE!
10 to 60 years of age, 25 mg to 100 mg.
Over 60 years of age, Lower doses increased cautiously.
Problems with:
Liver Function:
Lower dosage, as needed.
Kidney Function: Not usually needed.

Take With: Taken after meals.
Full Benefits In: In a few
days to a few weeks. If any unpleasant side effects, they
should appear right away.
Missed Dose(s): If you take
this drug at bedtime and miss it do not take in morning. If within
one hour take, if over an hour skip and then continue on your
normal schedule.
Never Take a Double Dose!
If Stop Taking: Do not stop without
consulting your physician and never abruptly.
Overdose symptoms include:
Agitation, coma, confusion, convulsions, delirium,
fever, hallucinations, shallow breathing, shock,
seizures, or tremors.
Can Be Fatal!
Warnings
The habit-forming potential is none. This drug
if beneficial should be taken about six months, in a few up to a year.
Do not drink alcohol while taking this drug.
Do not take this drug if you are pregnant, try
some non-drug alternatives.
Do not take this drug if planning to become pregnant.
Do not take if you are breast-feeding.
Do not take this drug if you have taken any monoamine
oxidase ( MAO ) in the past two weeks. If you have narrow-angle
glaucoma, if you have had a recent heart attack, any blood
cell disorders, or active bone marrow depression.
Do not give this drug to children under
ten and in lower doses to adolescents. If over sixty only use
drug in small doses and with close monitoring of it's side effects.
The elderly should be careful when standing, the blood pressure lowering
effects of this drug may make them fall.
Do not use if: You had negative
reactions to this drug or any drug in this class in the past.
Inform your Doctor if: You
had negative reactions to this drug or any drug in this class in the
past. If you have epilepsy. If you are taking any other
prescription or non-prescription drug. If you plan to be under
anesthesia or having any surgery in the next few months, also if you
will be under-going any medical tests.

Common: Blurred vision, constipation,
drowsiness, dry mouth, low blood pressure, nausea,
or vomiting.
Rare: Allergies, confusion, increased
appetite, insomnia, racing heartbeat / palpitations,
skin rashes, seizures, or sexual problems.

constipation, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased appetite,
insomnia, nausea, or racing heartbeat / palpitations.
