COLUMBIA...ABOVE THE EARTH
AND AMONG THE STARS
February first, two thousand three
The space shuttle was lost
The Columbia disintegrated
Oh, the heartbreaaking loss.
So near to completion of their journey
Just one more hour to land and home
But it was not to be.
And all seven precious lives
were lost on this fateful day.
But take pride in the thought
That these brave men and women
Lived not their lives for naught
This brave team of men and women
Whose explorations were living a dream
They were the pioneers in space
Commander Rick Husband
Pilot William Mc Cool
Payload Specialist Ilan Ramon
Payload Commander Michael Anderson
Mission Specialist David Brown
Mission Specialist Laurel Clark
Mission Specialist Kalpana Chawla
We will miss their loving hearts
The winning smiles of all
And grieve for thier lost lives.
They went above and beyond
The call of duty to mankind.
As the shuttle Columbia broke apart
The world watched in stunned disbelief
but Since the Creator named each star in space
He knew the names of these souls and their hearts
Rick Husband's voice echoing...
"Oh Lord, My God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe
displayed"
Kalpana Chawla reached for those stars
She went there and beyond
Laurel Clark said,
"Life continues in a lot of places"
And now her life continues on
For Willie McCool and David Brown
They were fearless in their quest
Michael Anderson indeed rose higher
Ilon Ramon will forever
enjoy the quiet of space
They did not return safely to earth
We pray they are all safely home
Gone but never forgotten
They have joined the power
Of the universe...to live on.

"The same creator who names the stars
also knows the names of the seven souls
we mourn today.
The crew of the shuttle Columbia
did not return safely to earth
but we can pray that all are safely home."
