Yosemite 2
However, onward to Yosemite. The park came into existence after a plea from the great naturalist John Muir to Teddy Roosevelt. A sign commemorates their meeting.
The drive in is beautiful, but full of switchbacks and blind corners - not to mention tour buses and rented campers driven by tourists ogling the sights. Thirty miles an hour is tops and it takes about 45 minutes to get down into the main scenic area of the park. Nobody really minds the drive, though, because the scenery is so spectacularl.
One of the first things you see is a spot called Tunnel View, with a view across the valley showing El Capitan and Half Dome. This place has tourists 24/7 but it's still possible to get a good shot from here if you don't mind the crowd.
This is the view from the parking lot above, with El Capitan on the left and Half Dome just to the right of center. It's almost worth taking the entire trip just for this view alone.
