If you say, “I can’t,” you never will. It’s easy to sit and whine “I can’t” when faced with a goal too high. How do you know you can’t if you don’t even try. Failure in the beginning can be disappointing, but don’t be discouraged, keep on trying. You can do anything you truly set your mind to doing. Nobody says it will be easy, just possible. Don’t get discouraged.
What do you want? In order to lessen disappointment and not be discouraged in the beginning, don’t set the first goal too high. Break a high goal into steps to be accomplished. If it has been set for you (i.e. a fundraising amount), break it down into stages to be reached. Remember, you have to be able to move your toe before you can walk. Your first goal can never be too small.
Each task you need to do can be broken into easier to reach stages. Each stage can be broken into steps. What needs to be accomplished first? Next? Make a list and check off each step as it has been accomplished. Move your toe, make your first call, etc. Each step accomplished lends encouragement for the next. This is the path to successful goals.
Set the ultimate goal that you will work toward. “I will walk.” “I will be at peace with myself.” “I will be a success.” Whatever you would like your life to be like, work toward that goal. This is your biggest goal. It CAN be done if you are determined. It CAN be done if you try,
Remember the old adage, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” It’s true. Don’t give up. Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be afraid to add stages and steps as you go along. Add new goals as you see them. But whatever you set your mind to do, enjoy doing it. Enjoy reaching a step, a stage, a goal. Enjoy your life.
