"Silence is the cornerstone of character."

--Charles Alexander Eastman, OHIYESA SANTEE SIOUX

Be still and know. Anyone can verbally attack another. Anyone can be a smart aleck. Anyone can be angry and tell other people things that will hurt them. Anyone can be sarcastic, devaluating and belittling. It takes a Warrior to be silent. Silence is so powerful. Silence can be so loving.

PRAYER: My Creator, if I get into a situation today that needs me to respond with silence, help me to use my silence in a good and sacred way. In my silence, let me be talking to You and You talking to me. Silence is the way of the warrior.

"Silence is the absolute poise or balance of body, mind and spirit."

-Charles A. Eastman (Ohiyesa), SANTEE SIOUX

Be still and know. All new learnings, all ideas about new things, creativity, daydreaming and mental effectiveness come to those who learn about silence. All warriors know about the power of silence. All Elders know about stillness. Be still and know God. Meditation is about the place of silence. This is the place to hear God's voice. We can find tremendous amounts of knowledge in the place of silence. This is the sacred place of God.

PRAYER: Great Spirit, teach me the power of silence.

RULE OF MOUTH

"WARNING: Make sure brain is in gear before engaging mouth."

1. Is it true?

2. Is it nice?

3. Is it necessary?

Is it true? If not, DON’T SAY IT! If it is go to next question

Is it nice? If not, DON’T SAY IT! Unless you have considered the consequences very carefully, and still find it necessary. If it is go to next question

Is it necessary? If not, DON’T SAY IT!

"My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit." – Job 27:4

"If those bad words come, I let them come in one ear and go out the other. I never let them come out of my mouth. If a bad word comes in your ear and then comes out of your mouth, it will go someplace and hurt somebody. If I did that, that hurt would come back twice as hard on me."

-Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA

What do we do with temptations when they come? What do we do when we hear gossip? What do we do when we hear bad things? If we hear these things and pass them on we will not only hurt the other person, but we will do harm to ourselves. We must be careful not to hurt others. Whatever we sow we will simultaneously reap for ourselves. We must be accountable for our own actions.

PRAYER: Great Spirit, today, let no words come from my lips that would hurt another.

"Words hypnotize and deceive everyone at one time or another, but these hypnotic words cannot last long in the hearts of true warriors."

-Barney Bush, SHAWNEE

PRAYER: Great Spirit, help me make my word good. Let me do the things I say I will, and let me say the things I will do - and do it.

Is there iniquity in my tongue? – Job 6:30

If we could change one thing about ourselves to see the greatest gain, it would be to stop being the victim. Too many believe they are destined to be victims of broken relationships, disease, poverty, and overbearing personalities - and they say it over and over again. How we see ourselves makes all the difference. If being browbeaten is security, we will always be the underdog. Day after day we throw ourselves into the path of what we think we deserve. But we can change that pattern. We can stop repeating what we have heard all our lives, and begin talking to ourselves with good words. We have hidden gold within us and as soon as we learn it, we will get out of the lunacy of being the perpetual victim.

We must help one another and the Great Spirit will help us both.

~Pied Riche~

Our full attention is like a powerful camera that focuses with such lighting and automatic adjustments as to be most potent for accomplishment. Inattention is sleeping on the job and the camera produces a fuzzy image.

Stop and think - what do you want? To do the job right? Or to hope you can outrun the competition? Yes, many are running, but only on personality. The right look, the right smile, the right lingo may work for a time - and then comes the substance. Make it real. Make it work. Give it your full attention.

"Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile." – Psalms 34:13

"The first factor in the revolution of consciousness is the mystic
death of the ego- the death of negative thinking, negative
personalities. We must purify the soul of the inner enemies. Every
time a defect manifests- envy, gluttony, anger, lust, whatever-that
impulse to the heart. Ask, `Do I really need to invoke this?' And
then honor the heart."
--Willaru Huayta, QUECHAU NATION, PERU

"Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." – Matthew 15:11

"Also ask your heart to purify and cleanse this defect and harmful
desire. Ask also the help of the inner father and mother. Every time
we eliminate a defect, we build our soul, our inner temple. We
ascend. like going up a stairway."
--Willaru Huayata, QUECHUA NATION, PERU

"We say there is a right time and place for everything. It's easy to say, but hard to understand. You have to live it to understand it."
--Rolling Thunder, CHEROKEE

The Elders tell us there is a right time and a right place. Don't
plant seeds in the fall- wrong time. One way we find out about the
right time and right place is our experience. If we are lucky, we
have a few friends who will share their experience; this will help
us too. The best way is to let God guide us. Only He knows the right
time and the right place. So we need to pray and ask Him for
guidance.

PRAYER: Great Spirit, show me patience so I can live in the right time and right place.

Silence and self-control permeate the entirety of our lives."

--Larry P. Aitken, CHIPPEWA

".the voice and the heart are not working together."

--Barney Bush, SHAWNEE

We can say any words we want with our voice but we cannot hide the true meaning and the true spirit behind the words. The true meaning is always understood. The voice is heard in the physical world, but the meaning is transmitted in the spiritual world. if our voice says one thing but the heart is saying something else, it's the something else that is heard. It is said that the truth will set you free. Reaching the truth means your voice and your words will be in alignment with the heart.

PRAYER: Great Spirit, let my tongue, speak the truth today.

" I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me." – Psalms 39:1

I have a right! Only, says a wise sage, if you accept the responsibility that goes with it. We have a right to be full-fledged people of dignity and decency and respect, as long as we are decent and respectful to those around us. The right for a good life belongs to all of us as long as we value it, work for it, and keep it good. We have a right to speak our minds but we have to know the tremendous responsibility of words. We have a right to cultivate our spiritual preferences and to see them bear fruit in every good thing. It is our right to be who we are without the burden of regret and resentment. But we have to remember that our rights are limited to where our rights end and another persons rights begin

By listening to the inner self and following one's instincts and intuitions, a person may be guided to safety."

-Dr. A.C. Ross (Ehanamani), LAKOTA

"Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue." – Psalms 120:2

"It's time. If you are to walk the path of heart, then it is time..."

-Nippawanock, ARAPAHOE

If not now, when? If not me, who? To walk the path of the heart is a great honor. Every human has the choice to walk this path, but very few will decide to make it. Why? Well, because you can't act and behave like everyone else behaves. You must be the person who will learn to look within. You must be the person who will be fully accountable for yourself. You must be the person who prays and meditates. You must be the person who will sacrifice. You must decide to be a Peaceful Warrior. What will you decide today?

PRAYER: Oh, Great Mystery, lead me on the path of the heart.

"Grandfather says...you must not hurt anybody or do harm to anyone. You must not fight. Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life."

-Wovoka, PAIUTE

The question one should ask themselves is: Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy? If you want to be right, this is a request from your ego. If you want to be happy then this is of the Great Spirit. The only meaning anything has is the meaning we give it. Maybe we should develop a philosophy of: Today is the last day of the rest of my life. If this were true, how easy it would be to let things go - how easy it would be to forgive.

Oh Great Spirit, let me live today as if it was my last. Let me express Your joy and be happy today. Let me see the joy and honor of living on the Red Road.
